reason 11…

no one else would want to build the ‘things’ I ride ! [too worried about their “reputation” / fragile egos ?!]

reason 12

"five month wait for a board from a “pro” ? "

…THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS !!

Reason 13

to learn to shape , glass, sand, fin , spray , resin swirl , make fins , install boxes…

etc…

reason 14 [should be reason 1!]

because it’s …FUN !!

reason 15

something to do during our annual four months of no waves. [Helps postpone insanity.]

reason 16

beats sitting in some dark hovel with a bunch of people my age who “used to surf” [yeah …SURE you did !] …but who now prefer playing russian roulette with five bullets in the chambers [aka sticking needles in their arms]

reason 17

[related to 16]

to create something useful , rather than destroy a life or two [hundred]

…a better way to spend money , for sure !

reason 18

to stoke out a grom

[heck , my first board was a ‘hand me down’ …why not continue the cycle?

or, in Ambroses’s " The Swaylocks Travel Board’'s case …America !

in Hicksy’s case , Australasia / ?oceania?]

reason 18-- so i only have to go into a surfshop once a year to buy my 40 bars of wax.

…“hey mate , have you got any wax?”

reason number one for me …

to fully understand all the hard work, pioneering minds before me used to create the technology and boards the masses take for granted.

oh sorry that was heavier than normal, must be my new resin flavored cologne…lol

Reason number ? Give me another excuse to hang out in my carport listening to right wing propaganda on the radio, drinking beer, and smoking cheep cigars. Mike

reason no.19

To keep ‘Rex’ company ,

as he scavenges around Hicksy’s garage looking for imaginary [and real] mice , snakes , red back spiders ,

and … pink dinosaurs and spaceships …[and whatever else he and “Holly” must be seeing, after a whole day in there , without their respirators on ]

reason #…

#10 - what else would I spend my money on

9 - because what I like can’t be found on the racks

8 - because a pro shaper won’t let me redesign (change my mind) 2000 times

7 - the process is therapeutic

6 - the feeling of paddling out for the first time on something you built

5 - the feeling of paddling in (takeoff) for the first time on something you built

4 - the feeling of that first ride on something you built

3 - seeing someone else ride (and like) the board your built

2 - when some one in the lineup says what type of board is that, being able to say I built it

and the # 1 reason for building you own surfboard…

does Joel Tudor ride thrusters ?

I thought he just rode heavy old single fin logs ?
