so i shaped a 6’1" single fin out of a 10 dollar Safari reject shortboard blank from mitch’s!

Just like they said, it had a bunch of holes in it but i don’t mind too much for ten dollars …

I didn’t use a planer on this board, or even a surform. just a saw, block plane, and sanding block.

And I did my first cutlap with an opaque!

Here it is!

This picture is really crappy sorry … doesn’t really do it any justice (not that it deserves any).

I still want to do pinlines and a gloss coat. If you do pinlines is a gloss coat required? (yes)

And what is the easiest method to do them?

Hmmmm that color is … um… not as atttractive onscreen than it might be in person…?

Looks like you have hotcoated already, or left a LOT of lam resin on the glass. Usually I squeegee out the lam resin till the weave is showing evenly. But maybe you will do otherwise…

Pinlines don’t require a gloss coat, but you need to adequately (finely) sand the hotcoat for best results. I use 60 dry then 220 wet, before I pinline or finish coat. Suggest you plan on a gloss coat. You can thin it out quite a bit with some styrene, make it watery in consistency, and you’ll not add much weight.

What looks wrong or off about the color?

Looks good on my screen, and better in person. Just put some opaque pigment in the resin and didn’t mess with it. stirred it real good.

I searched the archives some more and i think i’m gonna paint them on with the acrylic liquitex stuff, and then i’ll do a gloss coat.

Oh and yes i hotcoated it already.

Cool shape! What are the rails like? Can only kind of tell from the pix.

Liquitex sounds good. I think I’ll try that next time.

In the top two photos, the color does look a little bit like pea soup green. I like pea soup, but am not a fan of the color. However, the bottom one looks a little more yellow and vibrant.

The rails are kinda pinched i guess? i dunno … or maybe they’re 60/40

i’ll take a picture of them and you can tell me what they are!

And i can kinda see why someone might think it’s a pea soup green … but yeah, it’s a very nice yellow in person.

I’m thinking of doing a blue or baby blue pinstripe … (charger colors!)

My guess is that if you have fluorescent lights, they gave your yellow a green tint. As for the chargers, better that than raiders colors.
