Who knows? one way to find out… I’ll give you a hint, it involves tracing paper and some resin.

For clear surfboards try tissue paper. The kind you use in stuffing gifts.
oh yeah i tried tracing paper and you could still see it after lamination.
tissue paper will work as long as it is bleach-free.
I’ve been using Sumi-e (say: su-mei-ay) Painting/Sketch Paper which is a rice paper for calligraphy that is a bit more dense than the rice paper you get from FS. It is also less expensive. A pad costs 9.95 and contains 46 12x18 sheets. It holds inkjet ink better, displays crisper lines, it runs throught the printer conveniently, trces well, and disappears upon lamination, as expected. I’ve only used it on clear boards thus far.

Howzit Spazman, Billy Hamilton was using tracing paper lams on clear boardsand it worked. Back in the early 70’s Steve bigler shaped a board for me and used a rubber stamp with india ink on toilet paper, worked fine.Aloha, Kokua
Finally some answers…have you tried Sumi-e in a colour laser printer. I have access to one but not a inkjet.
cheers

i guess all kinds of stuff can work…but ive seen my same paper that dissapears on a white or light colored board show up on a dark board and that kinda sucks.

I have not. Perhaps someone in the forum/archives knows whether the composition of laser ‘ink’ is water-based (like an ink-jet) or some stable alternative. However, I do know the output of some color copiers is not stable when exposed to polyester resin.
If you do a test, let us know what happens…
Hey! I like the toilet paper idea. And all this time I’ve been paying for expensive rice paper. Dang! Now I only need to decide if I use single or double ply, quilted or non-quilted…the possibilities seem endless… Doug
do most professional shops use screen printed lam’s? are they printed on rice paper?

yes and yes
I would stay away from the color copier or color laser printer for printing laminates. I've been in the copier business for nearly 20 years as a technician and in sales working with all sorts of color devices. Be aware that virtually all color copiers and color printers use silicone oil at some point in the process. On some devices the silicone is part of the toner and on others liquid silicone is applied to the fuser rollers where the image is set into the paper. Silicone and resin, PARTICULARLY EPOXY RESIN, do not play nicely together. Best to be safe and stick with inkjet printers.
