traction/traction materials

Howzit?!..I love the feel of a board with just plain old wax - under foot - but I was pondering some form of deck padding (CLEAR, all the better!) - not unlike the traction pads we’ve currently got available. What type of foam material are trac pads made out of? Can we get rolls of this stuff from distributors!!!..I’d like to take a crack at customizing some of my own. Kick pads on shortboards and longboards have different dynamics; some perform better than others. Remember the earlier attempts at peel on decking?! Simple, nice and thin. Although the technology has advanced to a point that has enabled a lot of younguns (and a lotta olduns) to get serious air and allows for some unusual control, I wonder if there are more COMFORTABLE materials/textures. I’m sure you need die cutters and molds for a professional undertaking. I was wondering if any of you have been in a track pad factory…what was your take on the op?! You still can’t beat the free feel of just wax, though. (hey, you codgers remember “slipcheck”? Did you just have acid flash-back and get a mental picture of mike doyle with a tee shirt on his head like king tut? …well, then…you’re serious! Laters, T.

Unfortunately I’m old enough to remember Slip Check. Oh what a burn that stuff would give you if used too widespread on the deck. Back of your legs would get raw. Tom Morey and crew has re-released it for those that liked the idea. They call it El Grippo. Haven’t used it but hopefully it comes in a new, more forgiving formula. I’ve used the Hula Deck on a couple of boards. It comes in clear and floral patterns for both the nose and the tail of longboards. (See Resources- SurfSource.Net) I still favor the straight wax routine- 'mo betta for me. i think XM has a clear stick on traction product right now. i’ve only seen it in their ads in the mags, but it looks to be a wax replacement kinda thing.
