What would be the most versatile and dependable shortboard bottom for all types of conditions. It will be a 6’6"x19" roundpin.I’ll be surfing anything from waist high to solid 8’.Mushy windblown chop to glassy tubes. What would be the best route for the bottom? Thanks!
flat with a slight vee in the tail.
I have to agree with Sea…You can’t go wrong with a flat to panel vee bottom. Its the most versatile bottom…simple, functional, able to adapt to most conditions.
Do you flatten the vee behind the back fin?
So in your opinions, its better to be on a flat bottom board in good surf ,as opposed to a concave board in a little chop? Does not having concave in in nice glassy points really make that much of a difference? Never ridden concave boards, but have never really had a gripe about my flat boards! Thanks!
Hey, for an all-around board, I would go with a slight V thoughout the board, with a little more in the tail. I find that it helps break up the bumps/chop better than any other bottom. If you prefer a “skaty” feeling board off the tail (not rail to rail), then lessen the V in the tail, even go flat. -Carl
dale solomonson makes a great traveling surf craft…it has a concave and a v and a displacement feature unfortunately fins are extra packs really small and the airlines dont charge extra they also have an adaptation valve that makes em surf chop or glass…large or small chance em…ambrose…cheaper than a T&C
18 ounces of custom, highly specialized, covert ops surfing equipment…
Dale, are you the Mat Man?..those things are cool…Ive seen ambrose rip on the thing, doing like mach 3 in small surf…eyes as big a dinner plates!
aka Dale, Solo, Doc… yes, that`s me.
TJ write the check and take it to dale in person …he will give you your next assignment…see the Queen of clubs paddle out at the point…drop in show newhall…you can ,.make the wave on a mat
Mr Travel, For the ultiment travel board don’t forget to look at your fins ! Edge Fins allows the surfer to fine tune there surfboard to the conditions of the surf !! Ck out www.edgefins.kauaistyle.com Mahalo, Have a great surf ! Clyde Rodgers
concaves in choppy surf dont work, so you can scrap those. a flat bottom would work in virtually anything you find
I’ll second Clydes post. I’ve traveled with Edge fins and been VERY plesed that I could change the board for different conditions.
