TRI-FIN or TWINZER

I m planning on making a 6’8" fish for a buddy of mine. Roughly 6’8", 22.5", 3" 17" tail. I was wondering if I should stick with the traditional 2 fin setup, or employ a three fin thruster set up. Any advice on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks mucho Drew

Maybe set the side fins back a little in case you like it as a twin. A Twinzer is actually a 4 fin set up: Twins with smaller fins set just ahead of the main fins. These boards are too fast for most peoples tastes. aloha, tom

Thanks Tom.

I agree, set it up as a twin and use fcs plugs, with plugs for a trailer, then you can sock in the big mrx (twin fins), or put in 3 smaller fins! or I’ve been using the big twins with a small trailer!!!..works great! Experiment!

drew, If you want to get drive out of some big side twin fins use Red X. We have a 5-1/2" Lost template that is very drivey or you could talk to Clyde Beatty about even larger keel fin templates he has made in fiberglass. And, you could still swap it out for a traditional thruster setup with the same boxes. As for ease of installation, you get wht you put into it. But, Herb has made some templates that work with his Roto-Zip.

I talked to the rep for RedX about a month ago regarding the system. It sounds like a great set-up. I can’t recall his name but he was extremely nice and very helpful. He said he had a guy in Rhode Island who would put them in for me lickity split. Is this you? If it is gimme your address/contact info and perhaps we could set something up. Though I am not sure that I am going to make it up there anytme soon.

But, I know we have alot of guys on the East Coast that install it. The guy you are thinking of I believe is at 2SI in New Hampshire 603-926-7800. If you let me know where you are at I will see if there is someone closer to you that will install it. Tom

I played around a bit, made a keel set out of sheet PVC plastic, that rode ok. Then rode it as a twin, then as a thruster. I ended up using G-2 front fins, with a GX trailer. I ended up shaping a slightly shorter, thicker fish (its in the board archive under DT) like this one. Both are really fun. Good luck.

tom. do you know of anyone in new jersey, or somewhere near who installs the red-x?

tom. do you know of anyone in new jersey, or somewhere near who installs > the red-x? Closest would be Religion Surfboards in New York 631-395-7477 I hope that’s close enough.

Tom, drew, again. I am also from Jersey. Rhode Island is about a 4 hour drive from where I am. Doable, but realy busy these days. I know that Jersey is not exactly the Surf industry capital, but there is a very large community here and any new technology would be really cool to have at our disposal. Thanks again man

Unfortunately, I just make the stuff. Larry Block sets up all the ditribution. Is’nt New York just across the river? Find us someone that is serious in Jersey to install it and I’ll see what Larry can do to get them up to speed.

Nor do I hae contact info for them s of this moment. I’ll keep you posted
