except when Blacks is waist high and blown out or rincon for that matter it’s still packed!!It’s a joke here don’t bother. It was leveraged long ago.Just dream about it on baywatch.
Its just a loaded question to ask about coming to californai for a surf trip, it allmost sounds like an oxymoron. Everyone else leaves here when they have a surf trip, to stay sane Its not a nice place to visit, and yet it is, the box is full and sold. With out a doubt go to ireland, if you go to cali instead of irland your’er plumb dumb. Pubs, Gunesess, women with irish accents or crowds, smog and stink eye. “Erin go brua”, I think thats how its spelled, probably butchered it though. Hell i’m going to the poet and patriot for a pint after this, now that my blood is up for a black pint. (Its in SC)
It looks like you’re writing that while you’re AT the Poet and Patriot. Drive safe
Two things, my grammar and spelling stink like an FP, and second i would never go to a bar that had an internet outlet; too modern/intergrated/starbucks for me. So no, i’m not for to be drinking yet, Drinking’s for later to reward myself.
what a crummy thread…why do you guys even bother surfing???
Its all about the thread! Thats where the action is. Now go stuff your mouth.
Ireland as a surf destination rocks. Miles and miles of empty coasts. In all the time i’ve been going there i’ve never surfed with more than 5 people in the line up. And the pubs. And the women. Oh it gets better and better. But I’d just like to say that you shouldn’t be so hard on California. Obviously you realise deep down how good you’ve got it otherwise you would be living in Northern Scotland or Ireland or Alaska where you would be able to take advantage of the uncrowded, unpolluted lineups day after day. Come on guys, you know California isn’t that bad really. If anyone wants to trade places for a year, I’m there. I’m not saying it is like el dorado or whatever, but it is easy to see why surfers from around the world want to go there. Malibu, Rincon, Palos Verde these are places that will be forever linked to surfing and California has this kind of pull for surfers who don’t live there. True there are loads of other places in the world that are more rewarding to travel to, but then thats not the point… I don’t know. It is hard to describe. But don’t rain on TLBs parade just cos you take for granted something that many people see as special. Sorry this doesn’t seem to be coming out right. I hope you get the gist of what i am trying to say though. Dan
Matt has a good idea there…hell, maybe go to Rincon first (sorry Matt heh heh but what’s a few more?) and start working your way down. Certain places are absolute heart and soul wellsprings of the sport, and many are in Southern California. Certainly Malibu. Park the car and spend some time, paddle out even if it’s flat. You can’t help but feel the magic. Surfing doesn’t begin and end when you stand on a board. Similar expreriences may happen at other places. TLB, Sorry to repeat myself, and it’s probably a sick and twisted California day when I’m one of the more positive ones on the subject of surfing in contemporary California, but California is like Hawaii…if you live to surf, you have to visit at least once just to understand what it’s all about. Come on through, have a visit, check out Huntington Beach in all its glory, check out San Clemente (Pier area and Trestles), and wherever else your heart desires. It may not be your best surf-action trip as far as riding waves, but you’ll see the various aspects of surfing and surf culture at ground zero. Suddenly a lot of gibberish you read here (mine included) may make sense.
Nels-exactly!it may very well be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so go for it!
i was in florida, on the coast, about 14 years ago, sans surfboard(business trip).nonetheless i took time to drive to a couple of shops, check things out, get the skinny on local breaks, directions to them etc.visited as many as possible.although there was no surf, i now know what many spots, well known and not, look like-what the setup is etc.pictures in the shops gave glimpses ino what they look like when swells hit.Anyway, when folks here talk about how good spot xx was that day i can picture it in my mind, flashback on how it looked, smelled, sounded, felt, and share in the stoke…
If you feel like checking out north of Pt Conception, contact me for a two bit tour of Morro Bay area. Warning - it’s not Surf City Central. (goomba271@charter.net)
thankyou guys, share the stoke for at least one more fool…
Same invitation if you’re down near the border. Any Swayholic is welcome to visit, borrow a board if you want, try the local spots.
