yep , it really HAPPENED
on the 3rd of january ...
Well, Happy Birthday Ben. Welcome to the club. When I turned 50 I was told 50 is the new 40. Keep surfing, taking photos, and having fun. Mike
hiya Mike !
yep , everyone tells me that , for some reason ! [is it supposed to soften the blow , I wonder ?! haha]
but my body feels a bit slower and sorer than I remembered 40 felt ...
at least i can still take photos at the moment , so it's all good
we have SO much to be grateful for when it comes to having an ocean to frolick in , eh ?
may we never take it for granted [wow , I did the correct spelling this time ...did anyone else pick my howler of a typo on whatever other thread it was when i wrote that [incorrectly] ? ...it's a funny one [just like my memory sometimes]
Well , on the weekend on T.V. , I watched 60 year old clyde aikau go over at HEAVY waimea...
....RESPECT !! I can tell you .....
cheers
ben
Congrats on being born Ben!!!! Keep living and taking photos man!

Hey Ben,
Haouli La Hanau!
Lots of great surfers in the over 50 category. One of my good friends and classmate does the Molokai to Oahu paddle board races. He comes in at the top of his age group.
We might be slower and sorer, but we’re smarter.
Aloha, Harry
Congrats on still being here, young gun! Turning 61 in a couple of weeks myself and still averaging several surf sessions a week, so know that plenty of surfing grins still ahead!!
Hey, that’s why they call me surfifty…8 years ago.
....GREAT stuff !!
thanks for your comments guys !
I wonder how old the oldest person here at sways is , and how he or she is going , surfing and fitness wise eh ?
that's what I REALLY enjoy about Swaylocks , the mature audience !! [as well as the enthusiasm of youth like Josh , of course ....
Happy Birthday Ben!
You can now hang out with Huck on his blogspot and wear “Old Guys Rule” t-shirts.
I like the saying “The older I get, the better I was”.
Happy belated birthday Mr. Chips! The 50’s are a good decade… better than the 40’s if you ask me! enjoy life, you are now old enough to be respected but young enough to still paddle hard!
"you are now old enough to be respected but young enough to still paddle hard!"
Well said Keith!

thanks Keith !
does that mean I now have to act "RESPECTABLY" too , I wonder ?! [haha ]
because , that produces a quandary [or is it a dilemna?] ....
you see , up until now , I have always tried to live by one of my friend's creed ...
"NEVER lose touch with your inner grommet" [ source : Russ Hunt , from Tunnel Vision Surfboards , in Albany , West Australia]
Well, I guess that the innocence / energy / enthusiasm of a grom , combined with [?hopefully ??!!] the experience and wisdom of an ...er..."mature" fellow , is definately a positive combination , particularly in the water !
cheers guys
ben
[ I've always thought it funny how the non-surfing threads of mine generally get more responses than the others.....
Howzit chip, Happy Birthday and 50 is a great age and I was still going strong till 60, but then the cancer thing hit me and that set me back somewhat but I am still doing what my body lets me. Aloha,Kokua
Happy Birthday Ben
I have just turn 40 and noticed i have a little bit more time on my hands than I did a few years ago.
Kids are grown up and dont want to do anything with us anymore.
More time for surfing.
At 50 they should have moved out all together. (Maybe)
Which means even more surfing and also more surf fitness.
I notice that the more I surf the less i am sore afterwards.
Where I surf there are quite a large number of guys and girls surfing in there later years
They are all fairly fit concidering their age and are always smiling.
Cheers
good on ya , Mike !
and the thing I enjoy is your encouragement and upbeat nature here , with all the crap that last year threw your way .
keep on charging , surfing when you can , and being here to spread good vibes , goodness knows , it's what the world could do with MORE of right now !!
cheers Mike , you're a good man !
ben
Here’s one. While eating breakfast at a small cafe with a couple friends my age and a friends young son. Some fart humor got started and my friend leans over to the kid as says, “remember, you’re never too old to act immature.” So true! Mike
happy birthday ! and thanks , mds !!
GREAT to see you here , and hear from you !!
" I notice that the more I surf the less i am sore afterwards. "
yes , I DO believe that there IS something valuable in that !!
The thing now , is to pace ourselves , I guess , as we get older [ Which means , for me at least , no more six hour getting fried and dehydrated surf sessions , like when teenagers !]
...I find an hour , hour and a half max , as long as I've had fun [read: caught a few / plenty of good waves ! ] is sufficient .
Plus , as you can see , when injured [like now] , there IS always the camera , and the challenge that presents to both document and also attempt to bring beauty out of what sometimes is perhaps mediocrity [ well, that is probably by other's standards and locations , maybe ? ]
cheers
ben
good on ya rooster ...may fart jokes always ...er ...'linger' throughout our lives , eh ?! ......whoooshhhh !!
Happy 50 Chipfin61.
Health is your Wealth.
Kind regards,
surfding
Good on ya benny!!.,
