Twin fin placement

Just finished shaping a fish. The only thing im not sure of is where to place the fins. To give you some idea of the dimensions, i based it on a skip frye design fish, 5’11’ x 21’ x 16 nose x 16 tail. I had been told that some boards like this the fins are just put on parallel to the stringer. Any info.

You want the fins between 7 and 8 inches up. Set off the rails 1 3\4 inches. Parellel to stringer only if they’re foiled both sides. No or very little cant. This is for keel set up. If they’re flat foiled on the inside, toe them in 1\8 inch. Fin material varies. I prefer marine ply for foiled both sides and for flat inside foiled I like conventional fiberglass panel with 1\8 inch birch ply added to the outside (foiled side). This formula has served me well. aloha, tom

I believe Mitch’s in La Jolla sells them.(the double sided foils). For the flat inside foil, we have those at our factory (however not for sale). My suggestion is to make them yourself if you have fin experience. Foil is important though. aloha, Tom

How do those fish boards go, ive always been wary of the tails cause they are so wide and the swallow is about 5 inches deep. How does such a deep cut affect the performance of those boards.
