twinzer/ c-5-style canards

Going to add some canards in front of my main side fins on my $15 blank board to add versatility, and I need just a couple of tips on placement. Obviously they will go outboard and forward of the side fins, but by how much? I’m assuming the cant will match the sides, but should the toe-in be parallel as well? In some I’ve seen, it almost looks like the leading small fin has just a bit more toe than the main side fins do.

Thanks again!

surely someone must know? Puuulllleeeezzz!!! You can pm me if you don’t want it in general circulation.

Shwuz…didn’t that FP template come with fin set up instruction? doesn’t that board have to have the correct fin placement that the designer intended for that design to work at optimal Fat Penguinness?

I don’t know much about c-5 placements but I do twinzers…I place the front fins with the trailing edge of the fin 3/4" to 1/2" back(overlap) from the leeding front edge of the back fins…both fins 1-1/4 or 1-1/8" from the rail…the front fin I add 2 to 3 more cant outwards… this works on my twinzer boards…

Excellent, thanks a bunch, shipman.

And yes, it did come with a fin template for it operate at optimal “penguinness”.

but I didn’t like it.

Actually, what happened was I couldn’t find a manufactured fin/fin-system fin that would work for the application, and didn’t have the room to put in a f/u box where the fins would need to go… I also didn’t have the inclination to make couple of fins to fit this application, either as glassons or box fins, and I didn’t have the money to have them made. I couldn’t find single-foiled 5.5" fins for f/u boxes.

Also, I wanted them to be removable, for ease of portage, as well as giving me the option of changing out fin templates. Once I started down that road, I decided to make it a quad. Shortly thereafter, I decided to add a center box so I could thruster it, as well as a couple of fcs plugs up front so I could twinzer or c-5 it. That last step is in progress still.

And if I really want to stay true to the original “penguinness”, all I have to do is find a set of 5.5" futures sides, and the boxes are already in the right spot.

schwuz, if you ever make and order from fiberglasssupply.com, they have 5.25" futures twins, like $11 or something like that. might be worth it to sneek a set of those in with an order, it alwasy good to ahve twin fins around.
