U-Pol tested

A couple days ago U-Pol Clear #1 spray can went on a beefy 8 1/2’ tapered rounded ends epoxy board. It’s a one part product, went on real nice, just like hi qual auto paint, went off instantly, overspray was a dry dust, coating was touchable very soon, never did feel it tacky, sanded the tape edge in 20 min with 280 grit, tape edge gobbed up spots were gummy to sand but did sand, flopped it remasked and painted the other side inside an hour, first side no indication off handling, no tape damage at all. The spray can was just enouph to do job but could easily have used the whole can on one side, I like painting cars where you just keep going round and round until the whole gallon is used. Genuine 2 coat areas had a very nice built up deep gloss, one coat or minimal 2 coat areas had a dusty finish, the directions say 2 coats. Next day sanded out the imperfections with 400/600, wet sanded the whole thing with 1500 as the auto paint fellow said, then power compounded it with a green 3M product labeled “fine”. The wet sanding cleaned all the overspray dust real good, the compounding got shiniest where I’d left the machine longer. The initial 2 coat gloss was just as good looking as the best compounded areas. I’m not experienced with polishing out any type boards or finishes, don’t know what grit compound I was using, don’t know if the coating was acting hard or soft. This job turned out just fine for me, it would probably be a little substandard for a shop rack nu sale ultra beauty board. In water, and handling damage tests start maybe this afternoon. I’d use a bulk quart if used again, don’t know cost or availability. Its well worth a try if you’re thinking of it, the spray can volume will do best on a short board.

thx, GTFD. I have a 6 pack of the stuff I haven’t yet tried. 'preciate the tips
