here is a board I made for myself after seeing photos of some of the first channel bottoms…interesting to glass and sand but worth the effort…very fast and smooth to ride did amazing cut backs, i think it had something to do with the reverse curve in the channels in the tail…fun to play around with ideas like this but hard to sell your old boards even when you know they work… has anyone else out there had a play with this sort of thing ?love to hear??
Nice Build! Good clean craftsmanship too. That’s what is great about Swaylocks - The ingenuity in trying new or unproven ideas like the reverse curve in your channels.
I’m not an expert on hydrodynamic principles, but can see how the board is fast the way water is forced across the rear fin. Curious though the way the channels intersect the front of the sidebiters at a skewed angle. Doesn’t that create cavitation or cause the board to be “squirrly”?
Thanks for Parthenon surfer, does not seem to cavitate or lose and traction…got to try this board in bali in some head high down the line waves at uluwatu handled reallly well …{first couple of waves i was not so sure what would happpen but all good,}when i get a chance and a semi decent reject blank I want to build another one and make the channels a bit wider
thanks for the comment barry I had a look at your web page nice boards love your work … …yup maybe i should have wrote stepped rails…not like step deck on malibus,I marked fin placement before marking and shaping the channels …so no gaps under the fins, I worked glassing allan byrne six channels A few years back , use to surprise me that we could put fcs plugs in them
Very compelling shape, with or without the channels. Love the idea of thinner rails with the volume “hidden” in the middle. Would love to know more specs on it…would also be cool to compare same shape with and without the channels to see the differences.
thanks jamie, specs are 5’11 19 1/12 …wide 2 5/8…thick 13 3/4 inch nose 14 3/4 tail… …handshaped… yes would be good to be able to try without channels see what they actual do. would love it if there was some sort of foam you could change things then surf it then shape again, with out glassing
