UK Fish Fry : Stokissimo !!!

Fantastic trip to UK.

That saturday was the best ever a fish shaper could dream… i guess.

So many boards, so many nice boards, so many fantastic boards.

So much comitment and craftmanship.

Everyone was great, from the US superstar guests to Jim, Mick, Andrew and the Lokbox team, to (overall) the GulfStream company who made that day a dream.

I have tons of pictures, they’ll come as soon as possible.

I had the chance to chat with Many from Mandala, with Marlin from so many places (fins 101 / Moonlight), with Mr Pavel, Ian from Zamora…

I also had the chance to see some swaylockians wich name i forgot… sorry about that but i was so over excited… but i’ll never forget the stoke we shared and the beers we drank together.

Fantastic FRY…

Please, fell free to post your opinions and pictures of the event.

I’ll update soon.

…very good

BUT you like others learnt a lot from Swaylocks (may be almost all), also a guy like M Caro who started shaping 5 years ago; so, its time that you share a bit of your experience

cause here are lot of people that only put pict of the finish boards but dont share nuthin of the construction or design aspects, etc

like Caro, who didnt share anything at all, when in the past was a Swaylocks member…

yes, ugly words

but with all your and others experience in the fish design for ex., is better to help to others (like you) who are learning the process

----in this forum there re at least 30 guys who re stoked with share their knowledge and help people

Yeah, Manny did kind of turn his back on the Swaylocks world once he learned everything he could from Swaycyberworld. I feel cyber used, I feel cyber cheap. I think I need a shower.

Wow, walked in the house and Lob’s already got pictures up?! Cool! Guess your trip was less then 20 hours to get home huh? I’m whooped, but man, what a show. The pictures are gonna overwhelm you guys as it did us. So many incredible boards…and the stoke of all the people was just unbelieveable!! That’s what made it for me I think. I’ve haven’t laughed and smiled so much in years. My cheeks still hurt. Like Lob, I’m sure I won’t be able to remember all you swaylocks guys names, but I’d like to thank you all for your contributions!! Your boards were all insane, and history was truly made. Never before has there been so many of the UK board shapers and glassers, as well as the guys from other places in europe, in one place at one time! Wow, is all I can say. Next one is gonna be NUTS!

I think the title of this post says it all

There was so much to take in, it should have lasted a week.

Reverb, I can’t help feel that your comments put a damper on what Lob was trying to convey. Moreover I think the fish-fry addressed exactly the communication gap you describe: all of those guys shared their knowledge with those present. Perhaps they’re just more comfortable sharing knowledge in person rather than online. Getting to see Christenson shape a board was a priveledge for someone like me who hasn’t had any contact with the boardbuilding world outside forums like Swaylocks.

I’d like to say a big cheers to everyone involved!

Totally stoked!

Tom

You are absolutely correct !!!

It’s not so much that he got his wings here and then shined us on.

…It’s that he claims it all…

There’s a handful of others as well.

…Our pride going swirly…

That’s okay, in my jungle …they aren’t shit.

Hi Guys, I posted this in the other thread, and just wanted to make sure that the relevant guys read my thanks!!!

Just got back from the ‘Fry- up’

Would like to publicly thank Jim and Mick and the guys at Gulf Stream for organising the get together. Shame there was no surf, but that gave us more time to talk boards!!

I had a fantastic time, met loads of great people and ogled some unbelievable board art. To have that many ‘greats’ in the same room as their boards is a great achievement.

There was a strong showing from the Euro sways contingent, it was great finally meeting you guys too ( swifty, kiteboarder, nativeson, tomway, lob, peteuk etc) lets hope we can all do it again soon (somewhere like lacanau would be great eh Lob?)

Thanks again, I had a great day.

I was there too with the “Equipe de France !” and it’s difficult to explain how I felt after this journey but it was really great : nice boards, lots of discutions, many boards so so so nice !

Thanks to everyone who organized this event !

Just got back from Devon, and my head is still spinning… and not just from all the free beer…

The level of stoke at the event was through the roof. Everyone was feeling it. The boards were amazing, and if I had money in the bank,

I would have been broke before noon… but had a choice quiver…

Anyway, it was great to meet all you guys - pros and sways - and look forward to the next one. What y’all doing in July?

I can’t comment on Manny’s past dealings on sways, as i wasn’t around then, but I will say that in person,

he was very generous with information, and even inspected my boards, and gave feedback/input.

And again, the list of thank yous is huge… Jim, Mick, Skelly, Jules, for the event, Marlin, Toby, Manny, and the california guys for coming out and generoulsy sharing info and stoke, the guys from Portugal - NK and Scallop, Lob, and everyone who made the effort to go. It was a great time.

Thanks!

well, mister bitterman, i’ve liked the report even if i have not been part of the happening. I enjoyed the pics and the tune of the speech from guys who where there. Sounds like a lot of stoke, bravissimo for organizers. Maybe you forgot that not everybody lives in SocaL and for us, it is not that often we meet surf legends, master shapers, and great shapes in great surf shops etc…

Maybe Mandala guy is a ass to you, but at least he came down old europe to share the stoke. And that’s what it’s all about.

Just a glasser, who learnt a lot from Socal surfcrafting experience and owe to some of you guys one.

Now, about sharing stuffs on the web, taking and giving…

Being a shaper is a full time job.

The time you have to go chatting on the web is short.

Writing again and again the same things is somehow boring.

Once you’ve done it once, do you really need to do it again and again ?

The search engine is there, just use it.

I am myself a member of shaperoom.net, the french shaping forum.

I used to spend a lot of time taking and giving.

The fact is I don’t go and post as often as I did.

First because I don’t have the time to, second because I’ve been writing many times the same words and it’s not that fun at last.

On a web site, people come and go, that’s the way it goes.

If you stay there for a while, then you’ll see how often the same questions come back… and how few the people use the search engine.

As far as I’m concerned, I only saw pictures from Mani Carro / Mandala Custom Shapes boards.

To me, they looked really great and were a source for my stoke and inspiration.

So were the Christenson’s and Pavel’s.

So were the Moonlight glassed.

And do you know what ?

I’ve been able to see and touch those boards.

More than this, I’ve had the time to talk for more than an hour with Mani, about my shapes, about his shapes, about a lot of stuffs also.

He did not seem to be an ass hole to me… Far from that. I can even say I would have loved to spend more time than we did.

I also had the luck to talk to Pavel, shortly but soooo nicely.

I had time enough to learn tons and tons about fins talking with Jim and Marlin Bacon.

The same Marlin Bacon took more than half an hour talking with me about my boards and about how I could improve the qualities of my shapes.

I can really say that all those guys were top class humility regarding the level they riched as craftmasters.

So, the internet getting pissed stuff is nothing compared to the stoke we all shared.

I say.

Lob,

Awesome stuff man, thanks for putting this up! Share’s the stoke with those of us who weren’t there!

So… you guys gonna plan a French Fry?

The next European Fry will take place in Portugal next year.

Then, the year after will come France

OK, so I got two years left to learn how to shape a fish…
