UK wavepool snowdonia video - testing paradise?

looks fun! seems like you could just do laps and really get a feel for what X shape/contour/fin/etc does since it seems so consistent.

about as close to real surfing as masturbation is to having sex with a real woman

one has the same outcome over and over

the other doesn’t…

pregnancy?

wow that looks really fun!

We’ve got to get one of those here in central Florida, just have to figure a way to keep the aligators out…

This is presented as a test track which is fine. But it also feels kinda depressing. Something about watching guys hit the lip over and over again on an artificial wave… ugh, sorry.

The surfing may be lame to watch but the waves looked pretty fun.

All I’m saying is, to me, the richness of surfing comes from the variability of waves and the natural setting, and a less pre-planned, more sponaneous approach.

Fun is fun, different strokes and so on.That’s another unique thing about surfing- no rules, freedom…

Looks incredible to me.

So, what you are saying is, that it is TOTALLY worth it!?

Wow, I didn’t think that was ever gonna really happen.  I am curious how they’re managing the inherent refraction issues with succeeding waves.  Looks like a hoot to me.

No doubt most here value the organic experience of real-world surfing, but it would be pretty cool to be able to practice some of the mechanics in a more controlled setting.

it aprantly has a permuble matting around it that dampens the wash made from the waves. I know some people are against it but here in the uk we can get long periods of zero waves over the summer so having this is going to be great for geting some sort of fix when times get bad.£45 for a hour is not much more than what you pay for indoor snowboarding and you dont get the slope to yourself! its defantly no replacement for a real wave but when there is no other choice for weeks on end i will take it for what it is. Im giving them a little longer to get it dieled in then im going to go down and give it a try.

I think its awesome. They should put one of these in every city in the US too.  We can all shape surfboards in any city we want, tons of opportunity to make a killing selling boards!!  I’m going to get ahead of the game and start “Resinhead’s” Inland Surf Shop. I think the first location will either be Yuma AZ, or maybe Deming NM?..then I’m going to hit it large on Omaha.

Everyone will flock away from the beach and migrate towards these liquid paradises.  The only problem I see is that waist high, mediocre shape surf will get old really fast.   I want to see that machine pump out surf!! Why can’t they make it get 3x, 4x or 5x that size…then they will get peoples attention.  Why are all these wave pools always so small? you’d think the principle is the same…just dig a bigger hole.

yea, couple hot rods with the pool to themselves

now visualize hundreds in line waiting their turn, clutching stickered Costco boards

anxiously fiddling with nose mounted GoPro Hero cameras ready to capture the action

late arrivals circling the full parking lots ready to pounce on an opening

hips swiveling and gyrating turns mid face to the blaring overhead rock pop

if that reality floats your boat, anchors aweigh, mates…

That looks fun as hell. I don’t think it’d get boring. A good skatepark doesn’t get boring. I love a nice mini ramp.

Foam board weilding noobs don’t concern me. There’s waves today, a saturday. I’m going later and I’m expecting to be dropped in on by at least two people each wave. Nothing I can do but enjoy myself while turning around them. I build my boards durable for exactly this scenario.

What’s the difference with a crowded point break?

Answer: A couple of 230 lb enforcers with a rap sheet as long as your surfboard, 3 guys with paint around there nose from a quick huff of krylon, 6 other guys that wished they did but have green dots on their DMV license.  And a guy that just got done punching out his son for dropping in on him. Welcome to my point break.

Not really my cup of tea. We have plenty of waves all year round here so I don’t feel the need. In saying that, surfing is an individual thing and eveyone’s take on it is unique. If people are into this sort of thing then good for them.
