I’m now convinced that I need g-on fins (to get the proper size) for a retro sub-six fish for our gutless tx surf. Who makes the best twins out west for my soon-to be new creation? Is it possible that someone still makes Lis copies? Will it really matter if they are foiled/not foiled on both sides? Archive searches differ about half/half on the foil topic? I don’t personally care…just want the max speed/drive from those keels!
Best fish or any fin is the one that works best for that particular surfer, stokes his head, and matches the waves he’s surfing in.
Could be bigger, smaller, canted, toed, or not, lowaspect classic to new age quad, whatever the surfer likes is the best…that’s why there are so many different opinions.
I have a 6’4" Lis fish with wooden keel fins, no toe in or cant, foiled on both sides. I’m still trying to feel the board out. I’ve ridden it in small south shore and north shore waves and it’s pretty fast, loose and fun. I can’t say that keel fins are the way to go, but I really like this board so far.
My next fish is going to have two fins unlimited fin boxes in it so i can experiment with standard keel fins, raked keel fins, single or double foiled, and positioning. its fun to expiriment and to make your won fins.
Two FU boxes are a great idea gator. I had been thinking about doing that a while back also, but ended up shaping an egg instead of a fish. Have a 7ft blank right now and cant make up my mind whether to shape another egg or a fish…decisions, decisions…
