Ultimate Power Surf Setup

Hey fellas, hows it going? I just joined Swaylock but I have already read about 50 articles - this place is great! I wanted to post a very general question - almost embarressing. I have one of the last Clark foam blanks at my place from about a year ago now, and I wanted to shape the ultimate power surfing board. I surf down the line most often and I like to throw everything I have into a nice, smooth turn. What would you recommend for me as a shape? I love oldschool boards (80’s) and fishes as well, so I was thinking about a quad-fish but I have never tried one. I have narrowed my two possible shapes down to a 5’10’’ quad-fin fish, or a 6’0’’ 80’s type thumb tail. What are your thoughts? Cheers

what blank do you have?

I have a standard clark 6’0’’ blank - hasn’t been touched!

if its a 6’0"R blank you could make either of those, but to me the fish might be a bit more fun down the line. My 80s thrusters were (back in the day) more tail-slidey like a twin fin, and not so fast down the line (although very fun too).

Your mileage may vary, of course…

Hi Snw,

The thread on channels a few threads below seems to discuss how channels are great down the line. So something to think about. Are you glassing it too? then you might want to reconsider the channels. HTH

Bonzer? Everything I’ve read about them seems to match what you said, “I like to throw everything I have into a nice smooth turn.” My next project is a bonzer because I’ve lost interest in snappy thruster moves, I can’t do aeriels, instead, like you, I like to throw it on the rail and do hard “nice smooth turns.” Do a search here and at Surfer Mag Design Forum- there’s a bonzer clique that hangs out over there. Look at TFAD’s "surfysurfy.blogspot.com for good pics of bonzers.

I’m thinking a Kong single fin from the 83’ movie “kongs island”. They had channels too though. I enjoy 80s thrusters very much also.
