I was wondering if anyone has bought one of these Curing Tubes from sun cure? If someone is using one, how do they work? Are they built good and how is the cure time? Thanks for everyone that replys to this post. Thanks guys, Stephen Berube

Ihad a long talk with Ted at Fiberglass Hi. and he said I didn’t actually need the tube. He said I could just change the bulbs in my already installed fixtures and they would work just fine. Aloha Kokua

I’ve heard people say they can sand within a hour? Just wondering how the cure time is and when can you start to sand and not mess up the board. I’m hearing this is the fast way to get a board done. Just wondering how this works compaired to the old way. Thanks, Stephen Berube

I shoot my hot coats with catalyst, let them kick for about 15 mins. then put them in the sun to harden. An hour sounds about right. As far as the lights go I haven’t received them yet and will probably buy new fixtures that work faster at a later date. If you are on it you can finish a board in 1 day with UV resin. Aloha, Kokua

I was going to set up my board shack with UV lights so that I could quick repairs for myself and buds, as well as build my own boards quicker with less fumes. Now I had a chat sometime back with one of the guys at Suncure and he gave me the quick and dirty on how to make my own. He said to get some UV tanning bulbs and wire up the ballasts my self and viola! Your idea sounds fine, but the UV bulbs I have are 100Watt bulbs and require 100Watt ballasts. Hard to find and not cheap when you calculate how many you need for longboards. From what I understand, the standard flourescent overhead fixtures only have

I talked to sun cure and they said the same. Your better off building your own. That looks like the plan. I’m going with a 8 foot long unit. It’s going to be the same concept. A tunnel tube 8 feet long with wheels to roll it around my shaping room. This is going to help me some much, when i’m at school. I can glass at a lot colder temps. I’ll post the results and some pictures of the unit when i get done. Thanks Stephen Berube
Stephen… YOu mention your UV curing tube being 8’ long…are you planning on doing longboards. I seem to recall someone saying that curing a longer board with two separate exposures(in order to cure entire length of board) will actually weaken teh glass job due to differential shrinkage of the resin during the two separate cuers…or something like that. I had the idea of doing up a 16 light system where there are two halves that “telescope” into one another so that if you had 6’ bulbs you could cure up to a 12’ foot board in one pass. Just a thought. Dee

Never heard anything about that. If possible, i’m going to but them together as tight as possible if you know what i mean. I shouldn’t have a problem then. Thanks for the info, and i should have the unit done by Jan. I’ll be posting pictures and info. Thanks, Stephen Berube
