ultraviolet resine

hi I´m interested in the resin which just dry with the sun or ultraviolet radiation. Is it an especial resine? or ot´s a simple epoxy… i´d like you to splain me what you know about this, is it mere expensive?. And what about ultraviolet furnace? (i don´t know if this is well used) does any of you have build a ultraviolet “furnace”?

Un saludo, Gracias.

UV is an alternative to the standard catalyst used in polyester resin. it only begins to harden when exposed to UV rays (sunlight is the easiest, but some people use UV lightbulbs), and once it is in the light it hardens very quickly. it is not much more expensive than regular polyester resin. give it a try, but be sure that your glassing room has no way for sunlight to get in. if sunlight can get in while you are glassing, this will make a very big mess!

UV resin can be catalyzed with standard catalyst. Also, light box might be more appropriate than furnace. Some UV epoxies are available.

Hola mesitos, nos conocemos via www.shaperoom.net .

I actually use UV resin (the one you can order to www.surfoam.com in Hossegor). I guess that is the one you wonder about.

Working with UV resin is a real good thing for us amateur shapers as it allows a long time to work with when laminating our boards.

To be true, it gives you about 25 to 30 minutes untill the surface starts hardening => you can maybe work even longer but Neon lights produce a small amount of UV rays that is enough to gelify the surface.

Another good point about UV resin is the fact you don’t have to care that much about what’s the weather like. Cold an wat is still okay as well as hot temperatures.

I’ve a place to shape without any windows, just a door opening on my garden. I’ve bought a suntan bed found on E-bay for 100euro. I now have a six UVtubes instalation.

I don’t even want to try and laminate with a traditional resin.

thank you all

So if i buy that resine i must glass my board indors and closing the windows. 25 is a long time and as lob says you don´t have to worry about the temperature it´s a great thing.

And what about the prize is it more expensive? In Spain to find material is not like in hossegor, the shapers do not help anything and put the pizes of the material really expensive for you to think is cheaper to buy a finished board than the material to build it yourself. also the only factory of foam have closed and Mcfly (you should know him lob) is going to bring me a foam from Portugal.

How much 1kg of that resine cost?and the normal one? Is UV epoxy or UV resine (is not the same)?

What have you exactly bought lob? a suntan bed for people? and you put there the board? or a sunten bed prepared for board.

I´m thinking of building muy own sunten camera with some UV neon, a box of wood and an kind of reflective material. What you think?

thanks again

Sorry guys i know some of you do not understand Spanish.

Maesito’s, you can buy UV resin in Spain, call Hegradt in Burgos 947314898, if they don’t want to sell you small amounts of resin (i think 25 kg is the minimum), maybe i can do it.

If you want to try just the UV catalyst, maybe i’ll have some soon, and you can use it with the polyester resin you’re using now.

Also, i think that Stalwart will be open in summer, till summer, i think you can buy foams from Full & Cas, Pukas (Olatu), or What Say, maybe not really cheap, or you can try Seabase in France, ask for Patricia, she can speak spanish and is always a pleasure to deal with her, email them and they’ll sell you anything you need and they’ll ship it to your home really fast.

I hope this helps you.

I phoned Hedgart and you´r right the minimun amount is 25kg or 100m of fiber and that´s a lot for me. Could you really do that for my? how thoughtful! if you want I can tell you my direccion and you tell me the way I pay you. I just need fiberglass and resine to build a minimalibu 7"7’ (and some catalyst). Yeah I think Stalwart is moving his factory but it is said they have som troubles i don´t know but it´s a good place to buy the foam. Olatu, FullCas and that kind o workshops want me to pay to much for a simple foam 100€ for a minimalibu (are they crazy or what?)

could the resine be the ordinary one? by now i do not have a suntan bed

Thanks a lot Coque, anda pero si eres de Galicia jeje well it does no matter i´ll keep going speaking in english

Are you a professional shaper?

thanks again

Por cierto, vende Hedgart epoxy diseñado para tablas de surf? es pura curiosidad… por si algún día me diese por hacer una tabla con epoxy. Check out my Spanis foro man www.maesitos.com/foro

Maesitos, i speak english just because in this forum every one understands the english language, so… Tomorrow i’ll be in my office and i’ll have there Hegardt’s last invoice, so i’ll know how much does cost me the resin. I’ll email you tomorrow with some details about this resin to be sure that you want to work with it. I have no trouble sending you some resin, fiberglas or what ever you want to. Anyway Seabase in France has a good service.

By the way, i’m not a profesional shaper… i’ve done a few board and they’re less than perfect.

Good waves!

THANKS for that Brandon…I learn something reaally useful on this site EVERY day !!

THAT should help me when I’m posting at www.shaperoom.net and only a handful of english speakers [who all post here] can understand me. [when I try writing french , I’m sure even LESS people can get what the hell I’m trying to say…

…at least photos speak volumes eh ?

 ben

I wrote in spanish just to let you know there’s some people here you can ask for help in your own language. look at the archives, and you’ll see posts in french and italian. I’m from mexico, been in swaylocks 2 years now, enough time to understand almost all shaping terms.

You called me shaper, I dont see myself as one, because I build wooden boards, But soon I’ll be working with foam. Anyway, thank you to call me shaper, it feels soo good

Saludos y buena vibra. Jack
