thank you very much for the input…i think i will use the bolt/wingnut idea…i was originally going to just drill holes and bolt them in, but i like the idea of having the bolts fixed…that sound smore solid.
popped the parts out today, sanded them out, now i need to put in some supports and such
half a year ago I built a nice housing for my digital-cam
it’s a Canon Ixus 65.
gives quite good videos!!!
the main idea was a transparent housing made from perspex
or polycarbonate, very simple! you build it like an aquarium and seal with rubber ( bicycle tube) between the main box and the cap. I’m sorry I don’t have pics but I have some good links for you that might help
tho i didn’t make so many buttons for my camcorder… Just a play/rec button. I made that using a small pump from a soap bottle… Anyways it worked better than I could’ve ever hoped for… I took it on a surf trip to sri lanka without testing it in the ocean first, so the first time i took it the housing out without camera in it. To my surprise, not a single drop of water inside of it!! The days after I took my camera in the water for several hours… Even ducttaped the camera to the nose of a longboard and put a fisheye on it, worked perfectly!
Epoxy glass over Corecell foam block, PVC sheet both ends. Hollow out the foam and glass inside. Router o-ring groove for silicone Ikelite o-ring bought from BHphotovideo.com. Pistol grip is PVC pipe with camera remote inside, classed outside. Trigger cover is Silicone paccifier I stole from my 2 year old while she was sleeping.
ive been on hold with mine for a few days as im making a 6’2" hull…im getting back to the housing today, next step is to build some inner supports to hold the camera…we’ll see how it goes!
Front w/initial glass glued on w/marine adhesive, it will be bolted on to make me feel better soon:
inner mounting “brackets”:
MOUNTED AT LAST!!!:
so then! next is getting a thick sheet of plexiglass for the back of the housing, and ordering the button from ikelite…i need to seal the mounting screw that goes through the bottom of the housing into the camera so water doesnt leak from there, i have an 0-ring fo that already though. I need to get a BIG o-ring for the back of the housing, but ive found multiple places online to get such a thing…its getting there!
the hull should be done in the next few days…maybe friday night, depending…i sank the finbox today, just needs to be ground out and the board neds to be sprayed down!
