Ungrateful Bros...and the infamous Bro deal!!

I think i understand why the ancient greeks were so into man on boy love. If it wasn’t for the sex i could be gay.

some peple are good with money

some are not

there are haves and have nots

are we to judge and accept friendship from those that are of the same financial position in society?

are we to limit the learning and experiences of interracting with those who do not fit into the ragime

of modern economics and the burden of the 9 to 5?

what is a friend anyway ?

who is your bro?

can someone give you a gift which has more value and meaning than money.

can that gift of friendship, guidance and inspiration have far more value then a ten dollar loan.

I think we place far to much importance on money as an exchange in human relationships

it is far easier to GIVE, than loan to your friends especially if what you have is surplus.

Why set someone up. when you know there bad with money

its a self presevation mechanism. to look for flaws in peoples character and hold it against them

makes us feel superior and gives us something to bitch about to our other mates.

i choose my friends very carefully and i dont readily loan money or do deals with them.

if a friend needs 100 dollars to loan

ill say no.What do you want it for?

thats a lot of money. i wish i could

but heres $30 anyway

dont worry about paying me back or just

when you got the money.

hey the surf was great last week but you owe me 5 bucks petrol

you better pay or ill be surfin alone and youll be walkin bro

Guys, sorry to bring this thread back from the dead…but I just had to add an update.

The girl called me today to ask if the board was ready to be picked up??

I couldn’t believe it? It mystifies me…

she is honestly crazy. She acted like nothing happened the other day. When I asked her about it, she said…“Oh, the other night was no big deal…I wanted the lam on the bottom, but the top is fine. It doesn’t effect the way the board rides, right. hahah…so is it done?”

Welcome to my life…hahahah

thanks guys for all the replys…this thread was great!!

…get her committed…

and for f***'s sake ,

DO NOT go visit her !

ben

I got a “bro” a job on an oil rig and rented him a suite in my house for half the going rate. The first months rent was all I saw. The next three months pass, no money. Then he shows up one day with a .50 calibre gold plated Desert Eagle. No money for rent but can afford a $4400 firearm. Try evicting someone from your home while he polishes a hand cannon! Good times.

chip: Its true what they say about us Canadians and the Cali gals. I also here the Aussie women are kinda partial to us. Something about the accent?

hahahaha …

you can HAVE the Aussie women , mate !

or , I should say …

they will HAVE you , alright ! [refer to this thread, I think the girl he made the board for must be an aussie]

I thought it was next to impossible to get a handgun permit in Canada. Is that incorrect, or did this bro have some kind of magic pass (cop, rmp, etc.)?

-Samiam

Believe it or not… he took an 8 hour course at the shooting range in west edmonton mall!!! Then he’s just obligated to keep it locked in a case. But it was always out on the coffee table! Quite the place by the way… $25 range fee, buy a box of 9mm ammo and they let you shoot every gun under the counter that chambers a 9mm round. Anyone can walk in off the street and do this!

Man, if she has the cash up front the best thing is to offload it to her for cash ASAP. Get it (and her) out of your life.

No more worries.

nup

why ?

because next thing is ,

she will ding it ,

"duuude , crappy glass job …FIX it NOW !! "

[and she knows where you live …insert ‘psycho’ shower scene music now]

ben

Tell her you GAVE the board to your new girlfriend and to get lost.

Ben. The Canadian guys do get the Calif. girls. The hairy legged-hairy armpitted ones. We thank them for it. Mike

Oh…my…freakin’…word…

I think I used to date this chick, or one a whole lot like her. Total whacko. And, by no coincidence whatsoever, from Connecticut. Maybe it’s something in the water there…

So… lets recap here;

Quote:

alas, the infamous bro deal! She is a financial mess, and I worry about her still, so I, against my better judgement, offer to do the board for cost. I get a deposit, get the supplies, fire up the hotwire, and have at it.

This might be a real good time to give her her deposit back and say ‘sorry about that, toots, it’s gone’ and suggest she look elsewhere. Like maybe Guam, Tierra del Fuego or one of the outer moons of Uranus.

good freakin’ luck, man. You are most definitely gonna need it. The only bright side to it is it makes my chick problems look easy…

doc…

You know, this type of story puts the loony chick stories in perspective. I bet we could write a book about renter situations…and probably be a few chapters our ownselves, eh? Quite the education on the human ape.

The only thing more problematic than renting to a “Bro” is renting to family. Say no more, say no more…

The old favourites eh …… guns and women! Think I’ll go surfing, I can hear the point calling!

Maybe after a surf I’ll go see my “Bro” who still owes me money for the two boards I made him!

hmmmm

I reckon the biggest challenge in life , and I guess ‘Silly’ touched on it [good post , by the way , Paul] is keeping the stoke and not ending up bitter as we get older , in spite of the many times we ALL get ripped off by so-called ‘friends’ , and others.

(Money is OFTEN at the centre of it , but it could be slander , gossip, or any of a number of other things too of course , which may cause a sour taste in our mouths / hearts.)

It can be the same with surfing , at times too, I reckon…

I want to try and keep the child-like wonder and fun of surfing in my life , and enjoy the stoke and simplicity of paddling out and riding a wave or two. [‘’ NEVER lose touch with your inner grommet’’ , as my T-shirt says]

cheers !

ben

that would be a good book “bro deals gone bad” you could have the suggested renter section and one abotu people we ripped off, crazy girls, one section involving car, and another for miscellanious shtuff

Spot on Ben.

The world & life is a far too magical place & time to let be spoilt by the bad memories of when you got screwed over or hurt.

Remember the good, forget the bad, and enjoy the ride.

Cheers

Rohan

mate , someone must have been listening …

just got back from two hours of pristine water colour , a good bank , some fun little waist high waves to slide on the 9’er .

even two pretty girls out in the water , learning to surf 50 or so metres [‘yards’] away …

ahhhh…

these are the little gifts we get sent from time to time to remind us of what Rohan just wrote …

cheers !

Now, is it age, is it wisdom, or a combination of them and more? I have to agree, riding waves, and the ocean immersion, no matter how, has to be the best, most simple way to a smile. Not one of those surface kind, one of the deep down soul smiles.

I love my father, but, he didn’t surf, and always told me I would,“grow out of it”.

37 years of riding, and I’m still as stoked, lose sleep listening to the rumble, waiting, hoping, knowing. Thank God.
