Hi all- Has anyone tried making good surfboard resin starting with unsaturated resin? I can get additives, cobalt,brightners(or whiteners) , uv inhibitors etc … Can anyone give me some input? Thank for sharing !
Try to model it after the 249 B resins and then go from there with your own creations. Surfboard guys are all about consistency so make sure that what you produce is consistent throughout as well as batch to batch. The big guys already have it dialed so you might as well experiment with your resin…and keep us posted.

In Bali most factories import resin or buy Nuplex which is available(and looks really clean and clear. , kinda costly though). i have had some success with Yakulic resin but still it’s not as clear and yellows fast. I have tried a uv stabilizer but that worked in reverse for me and the board turned yellow the first time Ii took it in the sun. So far my success has been adding cobalt, purple tint etc but I really need to work on the fine balance of how much brightner I add. I really wish fgh white resin was available in Bali! Cheers…
