User Profiles

Hi all,

I’m working on Swaylock’s 3.0 (hopefully to launch in 2008) and I’d like to expand user profiles. Anybody have any ideas on what sorts of things to include in a user’s profile? Any feed back on the list below or any new ideas are GREATLY appreciated.

Here’s some basic things I’ve come up with:

Personal Info:

  • Username
  • Real Name
  • Picture/avatar
  • Geographic location (Country, State, City)
Surfing Related:
  • My Quiver (listing of favorite boards)
  • Local surf spots
  • Travel destinations (places you've been)
  • Years surfing
  • Favorite surfers/surfriders
Shaping/Board Building Related:
  • Years shaping
  • Experience level (newb, intermediate, expert, pro, etc)
  • Areas of specialty (glassing, wood, eps, etc)
  • Tool kit.
  • Shaping bay info? not sure what to include here, perhaps a photo?
  • Mentors
  • Heros
Pro Bio? (I'm thinking this could be some area where pros can talk about who they've worked with...for...) Manufacturers/Shapers

ps. this list is by no means final or complete.

Hello.

Video is be coming pretty popular and easy to edit yourself. a spot to post your personal short clips maybe?. I’m a new member and this is the first thing I thought of. I’d love to check peoples videos projects out.

Cheers Swaylock, Stoked on your site.

description of personal favorite best shaped board and Why.

Difficult for a craftsman to brag about a pop out.

Link to shaper-selected own Sways portfolio,

and/or to hosting sites of his boards

Link to the shaper’s blog, site, and/or list of favorite links?

This guy has quite a profile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwsntHcWiy4

Sure he hasn’t had quite a few drugs as well?

Check out Craftweb for personal info catagories,

stops a lot of negatives & flaming.

The glassblowers forum is the way to run a forum

as far as cutting out all the negatives goes IMO.

How about adding the blipBack video comment widget?

Check it out here - http://blipback.com

Mr Swaylock…

Is it possible, or even ethical, to make the filling of all personal details mandatory?

That might discourage trolls, a little bit…

Josh

i agree with speedy…

also what about current job title. so we could search thru members who have particular skills outside of board making ie: 3d drawing or website developer or java programmer or graphic artist etc.

please mike

make it easyer to post pictures whith having to reduce them

I guess that private messages ought to be re-named public messages. Fingerprints should be included as well. A breathalyser should also be included to insure sober posting.

I choose not to share personal information in my profile. Anyone in the world can look at that stuff !!! Kind of scary to me…

There’s a handful of San Diego Swaylockers that I’ve meet through this site that are now good friends of mine. That’s really weird too…must be my age…

…Life can throw you some crazy things! Glad I meet Ben Shipman at the beach and joined this site after talking to him…

Love the site Mike.

Yes Sir

I second Speedies motion. I really don’t see why Swaylock members would want to hide their true identities …unless of course they are…

Cheers And Merry Xmas

No way man, some of the best shapers are wanted in 13 states! LOL!

nah, me, I like my privacy, my friends don’t need to google me to find out who shapes their boards… my coworkers don’t need to know what I get up to in the weekend. I have a very white-collar job, they don’t even know I surf, let’s keep it that way… it’s just so difficult to explain what surfing is and before you know I’ll be asked to make a board for the boss’ 14 year old brat…

na uh…

guilty as charged

One big improvement would be to have any newbies post photos of their girlfriends prior to asking any surfboard-related question…

We made this as a rule on shaperoom.net.

Not many guys played the game, though…

not related to user profiles, but making bigger pics postable would be great
