using a wet out table for p/e?

has anyone tried using a wet out table to keep the glass lighter on a standard p/e-p/u?

i used this method for some dings last night and it seemed to work really well so that got me thinking i could lay up the whole board that way.

just wondering if anyone has tried this method…

bad idea

however i used some spray adhesive to stick the cloth on a ding first then dab the resin on

it was really clean and neat patch

would there be bonding issues?

ii dont see any problems with it

The shaped blank, makes an excellent ‘‘wet out table.’’ Then you don’t have to move the glass.

yeah but the shaped blank is also a sponge. if this method is used to keep the resin to glass ratio down with epoxy why wouldnt it work with polyester resins?

Laminating is not an Olympic sport. You don’t get points for ‘‘degree of difficulty.’’ The gain (if any) is NOT worth the effort. If you like lots of pin-air, or outright bubbles, go for it, because that’s what you are setting yourself up for. Also consider using a non-sponge blank. A skilled laminater can get a good fill in the weave, that is air free, well bonded, and ‘‘dry’’ in appearance. Strive for that.

If you used a vacuum bag with the glass under the skins it might help, but then why waste your effort with poly.

For a normal glassed PU Poly board it would not have enough stick-um and dry spots galore.

Are you talking about wetting out the cloth on a table first and then moving it over onto the finished shape? Even though I’ve never tried such a thing, I think it would be highly impractical. If you really want to know why try it and see how much extra resin, dry spots, hassles etc you have to go through.

If you are looking for an easier way to laminate a board, try epoxy.

yeah its a pretty silly idea

i wouldnt even do it with epoxy

your gunna save what 50 grams?
