Using Epoxy to Fix polyester dings....

I understand you cannot use polyester to fix epoxy boards, but what about reverse? Is it healthy to use epoxy resin to do some ding work on polyester resin boards?

Yes - in a pinch, use 5-minute epoxy. I always take some on surf trips for emergency ding repairs. It will turn yellow in the sun.

I regularly use surfboard epoxy to repair dings on my poly boards. Epoxy bonds fine with the poly resin (sand the ding area properly); it’s strong; it finishes clear, and it doesn’t stink up your garage while you use it. What’s not to like?

Yeah it drys faster than poly resin and works a hell of a lot better then solarez.

i keep a tube of suncure filler around for quick fixes in holes and gashes…but for real ding repair, i use epoxy (because it’s what i glass with). i’ve used it repeatedly on poly boards with great success. no worries.

Marine Epoxy putty from the hard ware sore is my travel ding kit.Dries in 15 minutes and under water.

Sands good for when your home and want to make it look pretty.Very cheap also.

I actually think it is better.

I’ve been told that you don’t get a chemical bond between fully cured poly and new poly resin anyway and the mechanical bond of epoxy is greater than poly.

So now I just use Greg’s RR for all my repair work, even substantial stuff. Never had a problem with it.

i think it’s better, too…especially if the ding is in a major flex-point on the board. where poly would crack under flex, epoxy will still hold.
