Using UV Resin with fin boxes and plugs

I am ready to glass my first board and I am using UV resin so that I have all the time I need and don’t feel rushed.

I also went and got the futures installation kit and when I watched the video and it said to coat the boxes and foam with resin before you put them in the routed holes. My question is, will UV resin set if I use it for this. would it be better if I use a ding repair kit and mix up a small batch of resin just to coat the boxes and the foam? I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I want to make sure I don’t lose a box down the road. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

Just get the smallest bottle of MEKP you can find and follow the drops/oz. in the chart in Ryan’s thread about resin/catalyst ratios. Mixing 1 or 2 oz at a time is exactly why its good to know how many drops you need…

I also tend to use UV for everything and mix in catalyst only if needed. Usually, that’s for things like deep tints and I follow the drops chart just like Ryan does. A 1’ circle needs about 2 oz to look opaque; a 10.5" longboard finbox needs the same. If you’ve already done a lam or a hotcoat, lay down tape before routing & resining - whatever squeezes out is easier to peel off on the tape than it is to grind off without hitting your previous work…trust me

or you can run to the hardware store (or the 99-cent store) and pick up a little thing of quick-set epoxy. nothing easier (or faster) than that.

thanks for the help. we’ll see how it works this weekend!
