'V' ~ Fin Installation Issues

Got quite a bit of ‘V’ in around the back fin. When I installed my future centre box it fits sweet at the ends but the sides are a tad proud of the board.

What’s the best way to sort this or avoid it in the future?

Nope?

When doing Futures (or any flange-based system) you need to flatten the crease in V to accomodate the box. That also makes getting the router jig flat on there easier.

Thanks Mike.

So what you’re basically saying is when shaping aim for a bit of a flat spot where the centre fin is going to be?

Imagine that would be the same for FCS being as wide if not wider.

You reckon there is any way to fix this now? Thinking it is going to cause a pretty bad bubble/ gap if I try to glass. If I was to route it deeper the ends of the box would be too low I imagine.

Hmmmmmmm, what to do?

You could always mix up a paste using aerosil to fill the gap to avoil air bubbles. Once you lay your cloth and patches, you should be fine. Good luck.

If you’ve already tacked it in, you’ll have to float/fill the area around the flange. it’s best to test fit your boxes before you put them in so you can see this kind of problem beforehand.

If it isn’t tacked in, I’d take down the crease and re-route to get a flush install.

Thanks guys, appreciated. I haven’t resined them in yet. I’m thinking the ends will be too low if I route any deeper. May just have to set the box and then trowel a touch of Q-cell brew along the side edges. Gonna look a bit poxy,  but oh well ~ he aha ra, you live and learn.

Kia Ora ano.
