Vaccum bagging without a rocker table

Hey, i know this has been touched on, but I was wondering if someone had a definite experience or mishap when trying to do this…I have an XTR blank that i shaped like a normal board except for the rails whcihc are going to be wood, and I have EPS blanks on the way…I dont ahve the rocker cut offs bc I used the Turkey cutter knife, sander method for the outline and then just used a planer and sandpaper for the shaping. If I stick it in the bag with the suction coming from the middle point of both the width and length, will there alot of twisting or distortion in the final product. Should I just stop b*tching and build a rocker table??

I built quite a few boards by suspending the bag, nose toward the ceiling. No ill effects. If you are using a large amount of resin this might not be a good idea; I only did super-dry layups…

if the blank is shaped , whats the rocker bed for ???

if your worried about twisting , suspend the bag by its corners , stretch it like a shade sail …

if the wood goes on the rails first , youll have even less chance of a twist …

sounds like your planning an exterior bag lam …

or are you doing a skin of some sort ??

regards

Thx guys you answered my question, yea i was jsut worried about it twisting; the rocker is already in. I’m going to put on the rails and then put it in the bag…

Not doing a skin, but I am putting a balsa core between two layers of XTR by simply sanding the area where the wood is goign to lay. I wanted to try to keep it pretty light weight, but well see what happens. The balsa is going in the middle of the board, the 14" inches of the nose and tail are jsut going to remain foam. Then I’m goign to have the wood rails. I’m also doing a little soemthign different with a quad fin set up and a “venturi” concave…I don’t want to say too much right now, but I have a good feeling about the concave and fins…not so sure about how the flex is goign to be. I want it to be responisve but not flexxy, and lightweight, Im using a 4oz piece of fiberglass between both side of balsa and one one piece of cloth for the XTR/XTR adhesion. Then 4oz epoxy for the shell. I would put up some pics but I prob have more computer problems right now then surfboard problems haha…the USB port for the camera isnt working for some reason…

What’s a shade sail?? Actually I just put these up in Dec 04. Those blue things are called shade sails. They are catching on slowly in Hawaii and the mainland USA. Impoted From AUS. Is this what you are talking about? It just accured to me that I can use a black bag, string it up like a shade sail outside and have a oven baked, vacuumed bagged board. No one can accuse me and Oneula that we are playing in the sand anymore. Cats kept trying to bury me too. warmest aloha, cp
