van racx

Hey gang! I had an awesome Christmas. I bought a 6’8" Velzy egg and was rewarded with head high hollow surf Christmas Day. Very excellent. I have to surf better to get the best of this board. Thank you Mr. Velzy… Here’s the question… I rewcently purchased a '89 Toyota cargo Van. It’s a mini-van by nature. I was wondering about making internal board racks. It wil fit a 10+ board if I have over head internal racks. I was wondering how to go about it. Something to keep it tight to the roof, be adjustable and accomidate a few boards. I already have roof racks, but I have heard about internal racks and would like to get them going… Anybody with any tips would be most apreciated!! Talk to you in a few days… Thanks & happy new year!!

Try this…get 1 inch ID PVC and build the frame inside…nothing fancy, just a box…but use a dowl rod inside the vertical supports. This is so you can dril holes into the support legs at known intervals and alter the height to accomodate as many boards as you want using a pin to change height. grab some 1 inch pipe insulation to pad and your ready to go. Good luck! P.s. This whole thing costs less than 50 bucks!!!

Use wide (2"+) webbing or large dia. bungee cord across the surfboard nose, behind the driver’s seat. Tack it down at interval to allow for 2 widths of surfboards across the inside. The secondary straps will be placed appropriately to support the other end of the boards but use velcro or some other means of to allow for quick release from the rear. This same rack might work on one side wall of the van too. Go study the various ways fishing gear can be stored vehicles or boats. Wishing I still had my beach van!
