I know the jury is out on the benifits (if any) of Vector Net. But some friends like it, so I have been trying to use it on some of their boards. I’m fairly new to board building(about 10 in the last year) and do them for myself and friends only. But, I am a perfectionist and always trying to improve. Here in Canada I have very few people to learn from and am looking for some advice.
When I lay Vector Net down on the tail( I use M3 77 spray to hold it in place), I find after saturating the two top 4oz layers and pulling the excess resin out, that I have air bubbles in the vector. Or if I really press down to try to get the air out, then the vector net strands move a bit and look like crap.
Any tricks of assistance and help would be very much appreciated! Thank you so much to you all for sharing your vast experience.
Have you tried it without the spray glue? Maybe it’s got something to do with the glue. I never glue mine down and haven’t had the air bubble problem you speak of. (Using RR epoxy). Also perhaps try putting the vector net between the two layers of glass.
…5 surfboards from me with Vector net. No problems if I lay the Vector on the foam and then one layer of 6 ounce E cloth over it…Problems if I use 4 ounce cloth…I think you need the meat from the heavy cloth to tame the Vector Net !!! …and sharp sissors…
