Velo

Would the velo template lend itself to a non flexible medium such as a foam kneeboard blank. I was considering shaping a similar design with a wide tail and single fin, just for cruising (trimming, im not too worried about turning just down the line stuff). Would the design work in small hollow and fat waves.

Check Bud McCrays great kneeboard website. Loads of design photos/info: http://www.blasthawaii.com/index2.htm An alternative to shaping a wide, non-flex slab with a big single fin, is an excellent, proven choice for small, hollow fat waves: the traditional Lis Fish design. Very functional (with an empahsis on the word "fun"), especially for high speed trimming and carving down the line. Theres quite a bit of discussion about “Fish” designs in the Swaylocks archives… it`s a tremendous resource.

true that the prototype velos were twinfins? simmons, lis, greenough hmmmm there must be something to those twins? whats the story with greenough and hayden?

I still remember when i first came down from my ranch in the hills behind Montecieto. The sweet smell of sage hanging in the air, velo tucked under my arm heading down to old el rancho for a lobster and cojo run. Those old crumple car days are long gone now my friends. Now I live in my dome of power in the hills of byron, sage bush replaced by wattle, damn bee’s are in season again, damn wattle. lefts and rights on the mat was where it was at, now its just parcel peahead and cowboy chuck cashing in daddy’s life insurance so they can yell at boaties. persue the non flex velo my friend, purity is still available to those who can excape these damn bee’s, stinging ass’ of poison attacking from all angles, get rid of the wattle and the evil critters will retreat, back to the 1980’s where they belong. Destined to ride out their lives in fluro pink and blue fullsuits and neon yellow 5’6’ twin fins, using the wide legged stance of the day…

George’s balsa was a twin, but as he began tuning it the fins got closer and closer, the board worked better and better, and ended up a single, which he claims is the way to go for displacement hull boards-also, check Spence’s photos. the foam boad next to Velo replica is a 6’foam board with velo type numbers.the little bugger hauls ass in big waves!
