[Blue]Aloha Balsa
Thanks for participating. Those are cool guns in that quiver shot. Got any closeups of the wood one? Plus I am loving your Magnum PI look! Especially those shorts! The matching color ensemble must be a French thing. [:)]
Just kidding of course! I love French design.[/COLOR]
It takes some courage to post here: when BB posts photos of vintage Barnfields, they still are Barnfields, i.e. great boards.
If I post some of MY vintage boards, they are just junk… Oh well, here is a jump back in time to 1978/1980 and, yes, you can have a good laugh:
And my quiver, circa 1976:
Thanks for the compliment Bill. Now if I could just figure out how to reply with a quote I’ll be in Biz.
Here is a Slalom model we made for the islands in 1969. This photo is current and the board is a 10 without doubt.
Don’t tease the French about fashion, some are highly sensitive on the subject, lol.
This thread is shaping up to be a classic…
Foamdust, try the pics again, somethings up with them not showing…I’d like to see the Gabe shape.
Mike, take the time to learn the pic attachment, it will give you a huge sense of accomplishment, and give you the chance to lord it over the kids who look down on you at home!
Bing, that Slalom shape is a beaut…
And Icc, thanks a bunch. I never rip a template, only eyeball numerous greta boards, so if that board looks authentic to the era, its a compliment to the men who WERE there!
Bill, a friend of mine has held onto his “Barney” for 20 years and it remains a favourite when he wants to sit outside and get the biggest ones. Thats a compliment too.

Bill, I too have some great slides of Bolts I built in HI and in Santa Cruz, as well as some amazing airbrushes done for me by Rick Stiff in SC. Hope to get a scanner soon and figure out (with help from a very computer-savvy neighbor) how to post 'em. Glad to hear of your continuing recovery–are you surfing much?
Chuck
Speed,
The pics are showing up on my screen…anyone else have the same problem? If so I’ll try posting them again.
Just three red rectangles on mine…
“ Got any closeups of the wood one?”
No, Bill, unfortunately not. That was my very first chambered balsa ever, but it’s the only photo I’ve got (and a slide at that, it was blown-up to a paper print, then scanned, hence the very bad definition, sorry…)
“ The matching color ensemble must be a French thing. ”
and (CAHIvet):
“Don’t tease the French about fashion, some are highly sensitive on the subject, lol.”
That’s right, we are pretty much into fashion. We even marry top models, you know…
Here’s another fun one. In 1970 Rolf Aurness won the World title in Australia riding a Bing Maui Foil. That same year his dad (Jim Arness)(aka Marshal Dillon) ordered an 11’ Bing Maui Foil, Mike Eaton shaped, Gun to take to the Islands. Unfortunately the board never made it to the Islands and in fact never made it in the water. This summer this board will go up for auction at Randy Rarick’s auction in Honolulu.
So Bing…that one’s never been sullied by a grubby ol’ block of wax?
Gimmee, Gimmee, I’ll do it!!!
Josh
absolutely beautiful!!!
Aloha Chuck
Here are a few more from 1975. Sadly the slide was not in focus.
You might recognize the wall they are leaning on as that is the inside of my shop on Ke-Nui Road. I think you might have stayed at my house there with Claudia… or at least she did for awhile.
I hope you find those photos you mentioned below, would be great to see them.

Here’s one of the first Bonzers that I shaped in 1973. It was discovered in east San Diego during the Sacred Craft Show. Notice the “blue Color Flo” inlay. L to R Duncan Campbell, Tom Moss, Malcolm Campbell and me. It was really nice to catch up with the Campbell Bros. again. Photo by Tom Moss’s camera.

WOW!!! Was that bad boy ever ridden? Looks brand new!
It doesn’t look like it was ridden very much. It is one of the cleanest 35 year old boards I’ve ever seen. Heres the deck. It even has the original leash.
had one just like that, all yellow though.from that year or maybe earlier? Our neighbor in Tahiti was an airline pilot who brought it back from an L.A run.My dad shipped it to me in Germany when I was in the U.S Army in 76,from there I went to Biarritz, and then had to sell it to get enough money for the train ride back to Frankfurt.Always wonder what happened to it,reminds me of that movie about the yellow board that went all over the world!Aloha
josh, you ride the board, we’ll pick the wave for that big thing.
Hi Greg,
yes, its a serious board…what a challenge to live up to the intent for it!
Do you hear the sound of footsteps going backwards ?
I think I need to get some ball-expanding potion…
LOL
Josh
I have this thing for a while and i’ve just finished it. It’s a Joel Roux around 1975 I guess. They were few shapers in france in that era, but they manufactured some classics.
Hello Chacal,
