My next project. Replacement for my shortboard that I hate. General purpose board, wider and longer, with more tail area for waist to 1.5x0H with low/medium power. Would try to thin the rails while keeping the deck flat(or even put a little concave in). Hard tucked under edge all the way around. Centerfin box with sidebites for fin tuning. I had originaly planned to do a shorter board(6’6"-6’8"), but I figured I can do with a little extra length since I don’t get to surf as much as I’d like to and could propably do with a little extra paddle power. Besides, I like carving turns.
Suggestions?

Håvard
Dunno what your hated shortboard looks like, but it’s worth mentioning that proper design progression in cars, boards, or whatever, is to change one thing at a time. (As if I follow my own advice, NOT).
Unless you try out something and it seems like magic, and you go straight there.
that board is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.
i like the outline…a lot like mine but yours is more pulled…you’ll like it if youre heavy back footer in mushy small medium waves…and you’ll appreciate biggers fins in juice tho
please define “JUICE”…I’m not sure what the term means in context w/your locale.
Thanks,
H-bush
I think the design would be fun either way [ie narrow nose , round tail , or round nose , pintail ] …something I often think when I look at the “Nugget” [McCoy] outlines , too .

That’s really what I’m debating in my mind, if I want to have a little fuller nose and tail. Still the tail and center width is certainly wider than what I have been riding. So by having a slightly narrower nose and tail I might extend the range of the board slightly upwards in surfheight and power. Don’t think I am a heavy backfoot surfer, but I’d like to be, that’s one reason for the wide tail. I was thinking bigger fins for more powerful waves too.

If you are looking for a new board design altogether then i would glady recommend a board similiar to that of an egg shape with a single fin. Roughly 6"4. I have rode one before and when i get a hold of a picture then i will surely send you one but it has a good glide, great paddle, and turns like a beauty. If you are wondering what i am talking about then just grab the movie shelter and the green board is the one i am talking about. It is the one ridden by Rob Machado.
If you want to see a pic of what i am talking about one the web then go to www.cisurfboards.com, click on surfboards, click on the retro tab, and then click on the MSF. That board is crucial!

hi harvard
looks abit like this one except i put a pin on it .hard edges,.mines 21 wide 6’ 10" long 15 1/2 tail… my board works well for me very stable and quick as well … had a bit of trouble pulling in to some small sucky backand barrells.but other than that the board is great …fantastic in 2 to 3 ft i have surfed it in head and a half reef break and it was good … maybe i would move the fin cluster to 4 1/2 13 like bert suggests for wide tails as this may help to loosen up a bit… anyone else got any thoughts on this kind of shape… im 84kg and 35 a bit unfit so im finding this board great as a winter all round board…its kinda mellow to ride…
Hi Silly,
that’s pretty much exactly what I would have build a year back(give or take a couple of inches), but since my little baby girl was born I don’t get to surf a fraction of as much as I want to so I figured a little more length would do me good. I’ll keep the fin position tips in mind. How much rocker does that board of your have? Do you notice the balsa flex much?
