Wake crossed SIm?

so, this has been bouncing around in my head for a while now, and seeing those wacky kids at windansea ride chunks of foam, and Stamps’ bodyboard inspired quad, plus a free sample blank sealed the deal…

of course it will have to be short to fit in the pocket, but i reckon it could be a lot of fun on less than critical waves.

wake boards have a certain hydrodynamic influence on this, and while they are powered differently, they are essentially on a rail, with water flowing diagonally upwards and across their surface, so why not?

thoughts?

Between the vids of kids riding standup on bodyboards and surfing skimboards and the alaias and other variations of the finless boards, I’m sure there’s room for a standup version with a bodyboard-shaped template and a Simm-type hull.

Personally, I was kicking around the idea of doing a longer version of one of these with modern keels in the Simm position:

At about 5’0" x 23" x 2.25" the volume and surface area is there.  I’m just curious how those rails would work in conjunction with the fins and the nearly parallel rails.

hey gdaddy, i just saw your thread on channels, and that looks fun!

at the end of the day, surfing is about fun, so i’m going to make this anyway, and i;m surf it will lead to some smiles. As you said, kids are standing on blcks of foam, so why not!

cheers for the reply, and look forward to reading your test results.
