This will be board #4 for me, and the first non-traditional shape I’ve tried. I’m wondering what people use to make very broad, round noses. Do you make a large compass or string/pencil and create the arc after deciding on the nose, mid, tail measurements? I’m comparing this to one of those Walden “CD” mini longboard types. My girlfriend is really interested in having that for the next addition to the quiver. The one I saw that I’m trying to emulate is very short, a 6’0". Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
Have you looked at the Clark 6’9"A? It’s very wide and has a low rocker to it. I use it for my fish but it looks like you could probably pull a Walden CD shape out of it. The tricky part would be emulating the bottom contours. He’s got that wired but you could probably get away with a double concave and chined rails. Should be fun. Let me know how it turns out. (P.S. I live in Ventura and could check it out more closely by visiting his shop if you’d like.)
Stopped by his shop today and picked up the dims off a 6’0" CD. 19Nx21Wx15 3/8Tx 2 1/2thick. I use a bender board to smooth out the dimensions on a blank. Can’t remember the proper term but I’ll bet Doc, Bert, or any of the almighty’s could help.
For the nose, greater curver like on the CD, use thinner plastic.
For the nose, my batten came from the molding isle at HD as well, but was not molding. Don’t know what it was sold as. Some sort of edge/seem material.
Some time next week, take a look at my surfing home page (link below).
I’ll post some pictures of my battens and other HD tools.
