Walden longboards

I hear that the glass jobs on Walden longboards are not too good. Granted everyone I have heard say anything negative about the boards are not on one which is usually the case. I have “heard” the Waldens tend to weigh less than many longboards out there with the same dims. From what Ive been able to find out, he glasses the Magic`s with 4-6-4 on top and 6 on the bottom. I havent heard what blanks he uses but assuming supergreen?

thanks in advance…

i own one. a 9’2 magic model. its a great shape for the most part. i love the wide nose. it actually nose rides very well, even in very small, mushy waves. it is a board that can do everything. if you were to order one i would order the glassing different. it is a little strange. i just had a board shaped for me by my friend with a two 6 oz on the deck and one on the bottom and it weights more then my walden with more glass (4.6.4 and 6 bottom), i dont know and i dont care, it works very well. If i could change anything about the board it would be the bottom contours. I would eliminate the beveled rails, and end the nose concave two feet back from the nose, instead of dragging it all the way through the center of the board where it meets the double concave. its a little too much concave going on, kind of unnecessary. I have owned various waldens throughout my life and they will always hold a special place in my quiver.

Thanks for the reply. I have ridden a 9’6" Walden and felt the handling was great. I surfed it in knee high and also in head high waves. The board really grabs into the top 1/3rd of the wave and will hold me there easily without alot of effort. It performed better than any of my other boards actually, I was just concerned over what I had been hearing out in the lineup.

thanks again…

Aloha … I have the 9’ 6" Walden Magic Model and have to say that it seems to be the best board I have ever had . Been surfing since 14 …49 now 5’ 11" 200lbs. and have been on a “Quest” to find a shortboard I like . Been thru 10? and allways go back to the Walden … Most fun for me, High performance longboard and it noserides good too.Just a good shape. Steve Walden stuck to refineing Longboards all during when everyone else went to shortboards … Including me. I dont know it is just the best board I have as far as I am concerned… I have also never had any glassing problems with mine … Thanks Don J.

Thanks for the feedback. I live right here in Ventura and been in Waldens shop many times. I have always liked his shapes, very clean and the hard rails combined with the relief really work holding the board in trim. Like I said, I just hear things being said, like “disposable” boards, “egg shell” glass jobs, etc. and i was just putting the feelers out seeing if anyone has heard anything beyond the county…until the child support goes away, i have to get the most value for the dollar. Spence, Beatty, Cooper , Towers and Wayne Rich are all a stones throw from me so i will have to continue my “quest” for the best do all longboard for head high on down to knee slappers…

thanks again,
