Next to my home there’s a surfboard factory and I’ve heard they are not using polyester anymore but they are using water based varnish. I don’t know if only for hotcoat or for fibreglass saturation too. I’m going to go and ask the shaper. Meantime, does anybody know something about water based varnish in surfboard construction?.
Most water based varnish is nothing but clear acrylic.They may be using it for the last coat.We call it “Speedspray” or “Prospray” sometimes.Unless of course there is something new kicking around. RB
