On the most recent board i shaped myself (glassed by someone else) i noticed water seaping out from around the fin plugs. Never noticed this before and have been riding FCS for nearly 10 yrs. On occassion on past boards i’ve noticed minute amounts of salt crust around the plugs. Anyone have this same issue or know what might cause the water to seap in? aloha 808 shapes http://home.hawaii.rr.com/makani808shapes/
either the plugs didn’t get wiped with acetone or the sander heated the plugs too much sanding them down. let 'em dry out then tape over the plugs and brush on a small hot coat. sand it down, it should help the seal.
Thanks Allen, So much for the board i snapped it clean in half surfing 5ft pipe today. I was just getting it dialed with the g-5’s i put in it today. Oh well at least i can get back to the shaping room and build one for myself. Aloha 808 shapes http://home.hawaii.rr.com/makani808shapes/
Howzit 808 shapes, At least now you have an extra set of G-5’s in your fin quiver. Aloha, Kokua
Howzit Kokua, yeah lucky me i now have about 5 sets of G-5’s. The break is clean and straight and the board is only 2 weeks old, should be able to turn someone on to it and they can get it fixed. Just picked my replacement blank (6-4R) up on my lunch break and should have it shaped tonight and hopefully glassed in the next couple days and in the water this weekend. I have a few back up boards in the 6-4, 6-5 range but you know how it is, always wanting something fresh. Aloha, 808 shapes
hey we score the area underneath the glass just like red-x on fcs fins. It should eliminate your issue. http://www.surfboardglassing.com
