Water stain

I cracked the rail on my EPS/veneer board and water got in. This stain showed up a day later.

The board is 1lb eps foam with 4oz under the veneer and 2x6oz on top. I don’t see how the

water gets to the veneer since there is glass and resin either side.

Is any one else seeing this with their EPS/veneer or compsand boards?

Think of it as a thin sponge between two thinner layers of glass. Crack the outer glass and it’ll suck it right up.

Isn’t that the face of Miki Dora I see in the water stain? Better put it on E-Bay, quick!!

The crack is about 2ft away from the stain though. It is as if the water travelled through the voids in the foam and surficed in this one spot.

As mentioned earlier 1lb EPS sucks water as its very light and mostly air. Do a search…I think I remember Bert talking about how to get the water out.

Water could absorb into the EPS foam and spread before soaking into the veneer. Keep in mind that the inner glass is generally a fairly dry layer - more of an adhesive substrate than a waterproof coating. You can’t see it under the veneer but I’d guess that it’s got more than a few pin holes? That might explain how the water got into the veneer if it didn’t enter directly through the damaged outer glass.

Please check this link and see what Eva Hollman has to say about water in the board and how to get it out…

Oh, that’s right there would be more than a few pin holes. The water damage must occur in areas where the weave is dryer

underneath the veneer. Maybe next time I will do a cheater coat before I vac the veneer on. Another ding and this board

will look ten years old.
