weight and my epoxy board

i shaped my 1st epoxy board a month ago ( board in pic below) i like how it surfs but its kind of heavy. I was worried about the strenght of the blank as it was made of 28kg rated EPS ( think thats abit more than #2 eps) i glassed it with 3x 6oz on top and 1x6oz +1x4oz bottom

i plan to shape a 9'6 noserider mal and was think of doing it in EPS/ epoxy with 28kg eps blank again as i have done 4 boards ( 3 HWS and 1 EPS ) with epoxy and feel good about doing my lams etc in it.

what i want to know is if i can get my glass down to 1x6 bottom and 2x 6 top and not compromise the strength alot doing that? i was plan to have 3 stringers in the board. was there other ways to keep the board lite with out snapping it the 1st week of surfing

so what do you guys think your advice would be really helpful

and i know i will get a few guys saying just us PU but i want to at lest look and all my options

cheers antony

my daily driver is a Marko 1.9 lb EPS blank with 2 6oz deck and 1 6oz bottom with fin patch. it looks pretty good for over 2 years.

2x6 deck/6 bottom is standard layup for 2lb eps. I suggest a deck patch of 4oz as well.

Greg’s saying you can do standard 4oz layup with KK.

However… if you’re doing a noserider, I like the little extra weight. Just a thought…

I made a 9' 1" hp longboard from 1.9# Marko foam with RR Kwick Kick epoxy glass schedule was 2 layers of 4oz e cloth on top 1 layer of 4 oz e cloth on bottom.  Three months of use and major dents and only one ding from the nose of a short board ramming the bottom of my board, but it just chipped the hot coat and did not break through the glass.  The board with the fins in weighs 12 lbs
