Reading ‘The Surfboard’ by Ben Marcus {lovely read ,generous photos] came across a term and obviously a function I had not heard before -"a weight plug on the nose ". Any answers ?

I’m guessing - a device that allows one to add/subtract weight in the nose, to test different ‘swing weight’ properties of the design?
You are correct. Hynson, and Frye, played around with them in the late '60’s. (1969/1970) Lead weights, in a recess in the nose.
