So about 4-5 years ago Ken at Segway Composites sent me a demo perimeter stringer shape to see how it would work if they did away with the PU foam on the rails. It was a little too big for the 5’10"x 18 3/4"x 1 7/8 I was going to shape it into but it worked. Anyways I hate glassing and I never could cough up the money for resin so it sat in a closet for 4-5 years. This year I gave it to my buddy to glass and have since I was never going to do anything with it. Well he cut like 3" off the nose and reshaped that and did a little cleaning up of the board and glassed it. I rode it today in some waist high waves and it is fun as hell. The waffer thinness and the epoxy give this board so much pop and it has no swing weight, the rails are really downed and thin and the thing is just a blast. There is also two pieces of carbon fiber tape under the tail where the stringer runs out of the rail. A friend of mine in CA is getting a vacuum pump and bags for graduation so next fall when I am out there I think we may dick around and make two of these for ourselves.
Killer!
Cool project...more photos please.
Ken at Segway makes custom EPS blanks. He also has a boat load of Warvel Foam....and perimeter stringer blanks with Eps core and poly rails. Good prices too.....
