Aloha . I have been in the SCUBA Diving buisness for years besides the surfing and have had the wetsuit problem allmost as long … But the apartment I live in now has a small closet with the water heater in it . I have a small fan in there and a 75-100 watt light bulb … I put them in there to dry… wetsuits allways dry overnight for me now . I don’t know if any one else has the chance to use this idea but thought I’d share it anyhow… Also from the years of scuba diving every day I started to not wash the wetsuit if I am gonna use it the very next day again … Seemed a waste of time and prolongs the “dry time” I never thought it shortened the life of the wetsuits… Mahalo to all, Don
I’ve seen something like what Doc sketched. It had a hanger for the suit, a tupperware basin to catch drips and a blower to blow fresh air into the suit. It also had two short tubes for booties. Something like this only cheaper. 200 bucks seems like a lot for a basic PVC rack and air blower.
Here’s a do-it-yourself version.
I jsut flip it inside out and put it on a hanger to dry overnight. It makes the inside dry enough to the touch not to bother me. For booties, gloves and separate hood I use a boot dryes, those fan heated things with flexible hoses blowing hot air. Stick them in you boots/gloves and leave for a couple of hours. Essential to keep the nasty smell to a minimum as well. Oh, and don’t leave your wetsuit in the trunk, damp or dry, keep it in a heated part of the car when driving. Even dry neoprene is kind of cold at subzero tempratures.
