Hey Austin - wasn’t meaning at all to be critical about the video, I think it’s great that you shot and provided what you did. In fact your footage may be setting the gold standard for answering the “how am I supposed to do THAT” questions on this board from here on out…
Video is definitely a cool idea. I myself dont have any real mentors or anyone actually showing me what to do, Im learning mainly from what I read and can find on the internet. Being able to actually see whats going on can really help clear up a lot of things that can be hard to describe in words.
Yeah, thanks for posting. Nice to see how it’s supposed to be done. I wish the laps saturated that easily with epoxy as well. That said, you propably have way more resin left in the bucket than I used for a 2x4oz bottom lam with epoxy. But then again, your way is much faster.

Håvard
Keep reading everyone saying, gawd, you wasting so much resin.
Isn’t the stuff penny’s on the dollar?
riley you are correct. its better to be plentyful than to not have enough. Austin S.
First, I’m a total novice. So I don’t indend to tell people their business. I’m just making an observation.
I watched the video, which by the way is very cool, and I’ve seen a guy in a glassing shop do it the same way. I understand why having plenty of resin is helpful. I’m just wondering if there is a way of catching more of the run off.
Are there larger or longer paper buckets? How about the trays they use for drywall joint compound? They’re over a foot long but I suppose it would need to be disposable. Paint roller tray come with disposable liners.
I was just wondering
I think surflab a while back said his factory builds ‘resin catch trays’ onto the glassing rack out of the cardboard blank boxes (which they have to prime and then make sure to keep very clean). And you can use less resin, because you can use the resin that falls off of the lap - not onto the ground but onto the tray just beneath the board- for the other lap and touch ups. Just make sure to keep it CLEAN or you will regret doing it.
yeah we have catches because we use UV so we can just RE-use what doesnt stickfor as much as your wasting you should be using UV.looking at whats in your bucket and what hit the floor id say id use about 50% of that.we are in a vey low margin business to me evry penny counts, however with my traps, it takes me about 4-5 boards drainage to get enough resin to do another lam. Its all in technique,my tip would be to go slower with your squeegee along the rails and catch more resin. In that event you will cut your resin usage.
