OK all you glassers and finisher, here’s my question. How would I hide / fix the scratches on a fiberglass Wingnut fin of mine that’s mostly black in color. There are long light colored scratches on the sides of the fin that appear to be into the outer most layer of the fiber. Should I fine sand, touch up with black tint resin, and sand / polish again? Or, is there an easier way to hide these scratches. I’m almost inclined to just try a black permanent sharpie pen and some how blend it; this will require constant touch ups. I really sound like a “freak” trying to hide these scratches, but I just bought this fin used at an excellent price and want to make it look new again. Thanks.

Thanks. …Sand the scratches out til you hit 320 grit, then lightly spray with a few coats of acrylic. After the acrylic dries you can hand polish with some car polish and a rag.Herb(most manufactured fins are acrylic coated, not glossed.)
Thanks, Herb. What brand of acrylic spray is best to use?..Home Depot or Lowes will probably be my source.>>> …Sand the scratches out til you hit 320 grit, then lightly spray with a > few coats of acrylic. After the acrylic dries you can hand polish with some > car polish and a rag.Herb(most manufactured fins are acrylic coated, not > glossed.)
