What about a thread about tools we use?

The idea came when i recived a small planer for the stringer. It is so small and cute hahaha, it’s like a planer  for collectors.

To remove the stringer from thenose rocker it was like a war between me and the stringer. I had to use a dremel,  rasp, sand paper etc.Now with this small little thing it’ll be much easier.

With this thread new shapers will know all the tools and tricks we all use to construct a board, fins etc.

Cheers

Colin

Can we do it without fighting? (LOL)

How about a picture of that little planer?

Ok so this is what I recived.

A 2.9" x 0.9" planer (EXPERT brand), a STANLEY 3.5" x 1.18" planer and a 9" with a 1.77" blade spokeshave.

The STANLEY one i’ll cut it till 1.70" like this i’ll remove the stringer so easy.

Guys you can put your inventions here.

no no no we have to fight… even if we don’t know what for but we have to fight

I’m in love with the lil one… sound a little weird i know

“Japenese Shinto Sander Rasp”  Comes in handy around the shop- mostly for wood, sometimes for foam.  Reversible rasp with coarse and fine sides.

I find it relevant to post a link to this thread: http://www2.swaylocks.com/node/1029244 I love sharp planes and this method got me hooked on sharpening. No I own a 3’ x 8" piece of 1/2"'glass and a Veritas MKII honing jig. Can make even those cheap Buck Bros planes so sharp I can shave with them… There are pyromaniacs and there are sharpomaniacs, I discovered my new addiction, sharpening!

a Few of the tools we use at the shop including the lil baby spokeshave!

a2tall,

you shouldn’t rest the weight of your sander on the pad like that. Once the pad goes untrue, its toast.

I like that "toe-in" tool!  Must be for setting rail fins LOL.

It was only for the pic

....does "glass pane and masking tape" count ? [for sectioning off areas for fin panels] . And a roller or two , also ....

[usually , I wear at least one GLOVE , too ...for the purpose of this photo , my gloved RIGHT hand was holding the camera , so ...]

good job chippo about ur gloved hand holding the camera

… with my gloved hand , I got resin on the camera . [Speaking of tools !]

And ... sorry to disappoint you , Col , but I'm definately NOT showing you MY 'tool' .... you're too young

[and the wrong sex , anyway] , Manuel !!

cheers mate !

ben

[ p.s. … ‘tool’ [ like ‘rooting’ ], means something different in oz , than it does in america , by the way !]

Ok I have not bought this little thumb plane yet ($52) but I probably will because I'm sick of making little dings next to the stringer when I'm fine tuning concaves.

it’s so damn expensive 52$ wtf. I tunned my little plane (the black one). the plane costs me about 9€~ 12$. i’ll make some pics of it
