I am sorry for sounding like a newbie, but there is mention of them on multiple threads, and I have no idea as to what S-rails are. thanks

schwanky rails son…
i think S-rails are when you have a up rail forward, neutral or 50 rail in the mid-section , to a more down rail in the tail. Like say a displacement hull or a greenough flexspoon.
I thought they were when you had a thick section in the deck and really thin rails, then kind of a step-down from deck to rail where they transition instead of a smooth grade. I believe the 7s fish have that kind of deck/rail.
True–it’s a big bevel–makes a thin rail possible on a thick board–I think its main thing is it’s quicker to fab than doing a smooth curving foil.
Something like this sk8 rail from Jeff Alexander.
I’ve always viewed S rails, when looking at the rocker profile. Picture a flat bottom, a slight flip in the nose, a thick deck and a gradual drop in the tail from the thick deck. Giving the board the shape of an “S”

and that would be an “S-deck”. apparently, what constitutes “S-rails” is an entirely different animal.
