what can i expect from this longboard?

i just made a 9 footer that’s 2 1/2" thick with a SUPER thinned out foil. the nose on this thing is THIN. it’s got a four-fin setup. i didn’t want a noserider, just something to really whip around. it looks like a shortboard impersonating a longboard. i know the forum has discussed thin longboards but i wanted your opinions of what to expect from something like this. kirk

What is the width of your board?>>> i just made a 9 footer that’s 2 1/2" thick with a SUPER thinned out > foil. the nose on this thing is THIN. it’s got a four-fin setup. i didn’t > want a noserider, just something to really whip around. it looks like a > shortboard impersonating a longboard. i know the forum has discussed thin > longboards but i wanted your opinions of what to expect from something > like this.>>> kirk

If you are a middle weight, It could be a lot of fun. I am 155 lbs, all my longer boards are thin (about 2.75"). If I were to paddle out next to you, I would be very interested in having a go on the skinny 9’. Shine http://users.leading.net/~shine

Just be careful in strong shorebreaks or heavy surf as 2 1/2" is awfully thin for a 9’ especially in heavy surf. You may end up with two knee boards. Hopefully not. Enjoy!

It’s still going to be a nine foot board and you’ll just THINK you’re > whipping it around. You’re basically gonna have a shortboard that catches waves easily…

Kirk, How about posting a pic. and letting us in on the overall dimensions? I am interested in your initial impression as well as a longterm follow-up after you’ve got the stick wired. Magoo

Magoo Kirk, I’d be very interested in dimensions & how your board works.I’m currently contemplating another board, for larger surf and trying to make the decission of going shorter or high performance long. I’d prefer, not to give of the float of a long board, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

it’s being glassed right now, i’ll post a pic. when i get it back. the dims are 17 3/4" x 22" x 13 7/5" x 2 1/2".

Unless you left some thickness in the rails it may not be as loose as you think. On a big board without much float the rails will sink on a turn and not pop to the surface as fast. To work like you want, you will need some juice to keep the rails on top of the water and to take advantage of less foam to move around. http://wegenersurfboards.com

I have a 9’0 Stewart LSP (light speed Performance) with similar dimensions and is 2 5/8 thick. If I am not moving at a pretty good clip, and try to turn it just seems to bog down. BUT…I love it. It is very fast and not a pig like some of the thicker boards. Really easy to cut on…if you are moving.

right, this is clearly not a small wave board. it is intended for use only when the point breaks here in santa cruz really turn on. speed will not be an issue.

Would have responded sooner, but our hard drive drive had a serious ding and was in for repair for a week. Thanx again. R.I. surfer

Very light, VERY FAST, but yes board needed a wave with serious juice.Miss that board, it’s in surf board heaven. R.I. surfer
