What causes the most drag?

The most significant drag-producing element in surfboard design is disrespect: We all have our own personalities and interests, but apart from a proper sense of perspective, a master craftsmans personal pride, based on the successful disciplines of many years labors, will eventually hinder him from fresh growth just as easily as will a beginners false attitude of superiority, based on nothing more than his inexperienced attempts and a reliance on an untrustworthy imagination. Thus, the greatest impediment to the practice of learning that both masters and novices often share, is the careless disregard for each other, their personal journeys, inspirations and the work of their hands... often failing to understand (or care) that the progressive discovery and perpetuation of every bit of knowledge and skill inevitably proceed from BOTH the learned and unlearned. Were all in there, most of us traveling along somewhere between our personal worst and the best well ever be... all just students, and hopefully helping each other along the way. Thats what I love about Swaylocks.

I thought wax scabs on the bottom caused the most drag.

i wish i was Dale

people that think they own the surf…LOL,Herb.

your words ring so true, Dale. i’ve always believed that one learns quite a lot in the act of teaching or giving guidance to others. if it is true, then the need of the student provides enlightenment for the teacher. in an environment of trust and respect, both lose the fear of proposing personally held beliefs or having those beliefs belittled. that’s what i love about swaylock’s too. thanks for reinforcing the idea so eloquently.

The only stupid question is a question never asked. When you think you know everything, this is when you know nothing. aloha

Tom - you know, it seems the older I get the more I face the reality that I don’t know shit. All my “rules” have been broken all my “truths” de-bunked! Following that disclaimer, I’d have to say that for the moment, the most drag is caused by fins and leashes and kelp caught on both.
