Gonna build my first board soon, got a question about my templates…
I tried do copy the outline and rocker from a Al merrick fish 5’10’’
But I think the rocker looks weird? doesn’t it?
What do you think?

Oultine looks good. Where did you get your rocker template? Did you get it from the website? If you did, I would advise against using the rockers from the website. they are off. I’m speaking form first hand experience. I copied some rockers from the website and they don’t work. But that experience forced me to do more research in the archives and learn about rocker theory. Man, I’m still learning. I would suggest using the rockers from the clark catalog instead. But did you get that rocker from an actual board? that could work though.

Yeah. just look at the 6’2C rocker from clark. should be good enough. I think the problem with getting a rocker from the website is that merrick adds vee in the tail which you don’t see, increasing the tail rocker when you cut it out. Also, I think the guy doing the photoshoping for the website doesn’t care how accurate the rockers are so he may crop some curves out which would make a big difference when you blow up that pic.

Hey Fresh,
Good deal/steal on that block. I wouldn’t scale it down. Just get the numbers off the clark catalog and put it on some mdf then trace a nice curve to fit. You can add the nose flip later. the nice thing about not scaling down is that you can have a rocker template that you can use for other board sizes in the future for you and some friends. have you read ‘surfboard design and construction’? it has some basics of what kind of rockers work and what kind of curves to go for.hth
