What is the difference gonna be?

I made the wooden board last “summer” {http://s50.photobucket.com/albums/f303/obaceman/boards/8%20foot%20Balsa%20single%20fin/ }now I am ready for this “summer”.

Balsa board weighs 20lbs Eps epoxy Sergway composites 2.5lb with xtra stong glassing 18.75 lbs. The Eps board was my daily rider the summer before last “summer”. We have missed a few winters if you get my drift…

Both boards are 8’ long 24.5 lnch wide. 3.5 inch thick same nose and tail etc.

It is going to be intersting to compare the two rides.

my vote goes to the balsa board.

there's nothing like the ride on a well made balsa.

nice pair ace.............love your stuff.

The balsa will paddle more quietly.    Foam transmits the sound of the rippling water through the board.     Balsa does not.   I believe the balsa will have a smoothness to it, that the foam board will not.    But then you knew that, eh?   Quite a pair.     I prefer to say that sort of the to cute girls, not my fellow geezers!

......the balsa has 'the' energy....2 nice boards Ace,,,would love to ride em !.......did you tint the balsa?

When cute girls here that from geezers it is soon followed by a slap in the face.  Next question should be store bought or homemade?

Boards look like fun Ace What are you riding in your Southern Hemisphere winter retreat?

Thanks Herb…Still waiting for that fin…We never met but I bet we could share some stories

Quiet and smooth…Like a cadilac…Also balsa is eaiser to hold on to going through waves.

“.the balsa has ‘the’ energy…2 nice boards Ace,would love to ride em !..did you tint the balsa?”

Energy, don’t know…The Eps boards have a pop and spring effect that I like balsa more flow and go.

No tints were used on the wood. Heck we are lucky to have resin where I make these still have to “smuggle” in cloth.

I have a Quad fin version of the EPS board that has become my everyday board down south. I might be making something new for next season.

Any of you  guys that would like to come by and ride my “pair” are welcome to.

Oh yeah the boards are 23.5" wide not 24.5" dyslexia kicked in. Still big I guess but I know what works for me in the waves I like to ride.

I am just having a really hard time getting into 56 degree water after 80 degree water…

Exactly why I started shaping.

Ace, I've always loved your shapes. Seems we have similar tastes. Your Long shapes are exceptional.

still have it bagged with you're name on it.

need to pay my bro in ib a visit soon,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,soon?........ in like, late spring.

will keep in touch.

Really nice boards Ace…love your work!

My vote goes to the wood!

beautiful work, ACE.  I’d love to hear more about your balsa build.

all the best

Ace, I Know what you mean about the water temp After  a winter in the tropics of Mexico then going back  to Calif . Getting into a wetsuits and chilly water took an ajustment. After surfing some really fine waves with just a few people spoiled me. I would look at the pack working the peak at Swamies and think to my self why did I come back?
